I was 7 years old, and my
family and I were on vacation
in Hawaii. When we arrived
at our hotel room, I looked
out the window and saw a
yellow smiley face parachute.
It was floating through the air
over the Pacific ocean.

I turned around to ask my mom why there was a smiley
face in the sky. She explained that this was called
parasailing. Parasailing is when a parachute is attached to
a boat with a very long rope. With a special harness, a
person is attached to the parachute. When the boat moves
faster, the parachute flies high into the sky!

From that day on, I imagined the day that I would be old
enough to go parasailing! I dreamed about the day I would
fly high above the ocean.
Ten years later, my family and I went on vacation to the
Bahamas...

When we arrived to our hotel, we went to our room, and I
walked out onto the balcony. I saw bright green palm
trees, a big blue ocean, pools, and lots of people. I noticed
something in the sky floating over the ocean!

A tiny rainbow colored parachute was floating through the
air. I yelled to my parents and told them I saw someone
parasailing! Since I was a big kid now, I knew that I
wanted to go parasailing while we were on this trip.

Three days later, the day I
had been waiting for finally
came! It was the day that
my brother and I would go
parasailing. I had dreamed
of this day since I was a little
girl in Hawaii.

My family and I walked down to the beach and jumped into a
boat with a red, white and blue parachute. It looked like the
American Flag! I began to feel butterflies in my tummy. I was
so nervous! I had waited so many years for this day, and it was
finally here!

We all sat in the boat while a man who lives in the
Bahamas drove the boat. We put on life jackets, and were
off! We quickly sailed away from shore, and then began to
slow down. The boat driver asked Matt and I, "Are you
ready?"

Matt and I looked at each other, full of excitement, and shouted
"yes!" The boat driver strapped on a harness and attached us to
the parachute. The parachute was attached to the boat by a very
long rope.

Matt and I were all ready
to parasail! We gave him a
thumbs up and he released
the rope. The boat began
to drive away and we
floated into the air!

The boat got smaller and
smaller and we flew higher
and higher into the sky.
Higher and higher and
higher! The boat was so
tiny that it looked like a
toy. We did it - we were
parasailing!
