Marni Monkey Gets Upset

SummaryMarni Monkey is on her way to school
when she finds an apple on the ground.
She is so hungry, but then her friend
says it's his. Marni becomes upset. She
doesn't know what to do. Just then, she
remembers what her teacher had told her:
To Act FAST!

Marni Monkey was on her way to school. She was very
hungry. Marni had forgotten to eat breakfast before she
left home.

As she walked, Marni Monkey thought of
all kinds of food; pretzels, apples, cheese,
grapes, bread, sausage, and pumpkin.

Soon, Marni came across a huge, red apple on the ground. "What is
an apple doing on the ground?" Marni thought to herself. Should she eat
it? She knew it could be someone's lunch. Marni's tummy began to
rumble."Oh, but I am so hungry!" Marni went to pick it up when she
heard someone rushing toward her.

"Stop!" Marni looked up. It was Christopher Cat. "Stop Marni!
Please don't eat that! It is my lunch. I dropped it on my way to
school!" Marni was upset. "But I found it!" she yelled. Marni's
tummy growled at her again. She was very hungry. Marni began to
kick the ground and yell at her friend.

Just then, Marni remembered what her teacher had told
her. "Marni," she had said, "when you feel sad or upset,
you need to act FAST." Marni then remembered what
she needed to do.

First, Marni needed to F: Freeze and think!

"What is going on here?" Marni thought,
"Why am I upset? Is it fair to my friend?"
Marni shook her head. "No," she said,
"I am upset because I am hungry. That is
my friend's apple. I cannot eat it."

Next, Marni needed to look at the A: Alternatives.

"I know that I am sad, but is there
something else I can do that is
not hurting my friend?" Marni
thought. "Yes! I can use my words!"
