Seeking Freedom
1
Light,
life, and freedom.
That’s what my name, Eveline,
means. At the moment I have none of
those things.

I can hear their wheels on the rickety floor. I
can see their shadows through the small crevice
of the door. I am huddling on the damp floor,
hugging my knees. There is little space in the
tiny closet. I can feel the old, moldy clothes
rub against my skin. It smells like dust and
wetness. It is pitch dark like a deep, sooty
hole. I can’t be in here. I need to be free. I
need the light. I am terrified. I have huge,
round, blue eyes. My dad used to say all the
time, “Darling, your eyes shine like the
stars.”

I have hair that comes down to my
knees. My hair is so dark black
that it looks like ink was spilled
over top of it. I am wearing a
striped-with many colors-tank top
and ripped jeans.

I breath in and out hoping to
calm the raging storm of my heart
beat. The air is very stale, and
all I want is fresh, cold air. It's
very hot in here, and the position
that I am sitting in is starting to
hurt, but I don’t dare move. It
feels like hours go by when,
suddenly, the rickety door swings
open.

Precious air comes gushing in at me. I’m still
under the aged clothes, so they don’t see me.
Something grasps the clothes in front of me
and thrusts them away with lots of power.
Then, I see them. Their little metallic bodies are
right up close to my face; there are three of
them. I am staring into their clueless eyes.
They stare back blankly. They found me.

2
The Disease
We stared at each other for a while, until
one starts to speak. Well, what they are doing
can’t really be considered speaking. They have
a screen wired to their head that has words
that appear across the screen when they need to
say something.
“Human must destroy.”
After the thing said that, a green, foggy gas
came out.
“Oh, no,” I said, "the disease."
Before you get too confused, yes, they are
robots. I’ve seen these things before, but
never so close because if you get this close
you would be lucky if you would survive.

About a year ago, a famous scientist
invented a time machine. The president of
the United States, Lucas Van Vandledin, was
the first to try it out, but something went
wrong. The future was in danger. He was
talking about something that is giving
everyone diseases. He was going to tell us
more about it, but he started to stumble. He
too was affected by the disease. I was in
the front row of the seats as he was
talking. He stumbled over to me and gave me
four discs.
He said, “When you are in danger, use
these and save the world”

He died later that day. No one knew what he was
talking about until now.
My mom, dad, sister, friends and relatives were all
killed already by the disease. I was lucky not to be.
I thought it might be my time to die, but, no, I still
have hope. I grabbed the discs from my pocket. I carry
them around everywhere. The disease was getting in my
lungs. I couldn’t breath. My vision started to go blurry.
I tried to get out the door, but the robots were keeping
me in. I could not figure out why the discs would help.
Now, my brain was going fuzzy. Next thing I knew I was
on the ground. I fumbled to get up. Then, I thought of
it. What do you do with technology? You program it to do
what you want. These things must be programmed to destroy
any humans. I was falling again. I painfully landed on
one of the robots. In the back of the robot, there was a
little door. I opened it up. Their was a disc in it
already. I took it out and put one of the four discs in
the slot.

It started to have a big loading symbol
on the speaking screen. I grabbed the other
robot by its puny legs. I did the same
process as the last one. I was getting
really dizzy. Then, I went to do the same
thing to the last one. That one was a little
tougher than the others, but I finally got
him. After they were all loading, everything
goes black.

3
Sparkle, Twinkle, and Shine
I wake up to fresh air.
I was going to say, “What in the world,” but I
can’t because there is a tube coming out of my
mouth. Some sort of air was coming in through the
tube and into my mouth.
“Hi, I’m Sparkle.” I looked around to see who
said that.
“And I’m Twinkle.”
“I’m Shine.”
It was the robots talking. I was going to
scream, but I was too stunned. “How can you
talk?” I say, confused.
“We are not the same robots as we were before
we were reprogrammed,” says Twinkle.

“We healed you from the disease,” says
Shine.
“What is your name?” Sparkle says
happily.
“Eveline,” I say still unsure of them.
She starts to load again, and finally
Sparkle says, “The meaning of your name
is light, life, and freedom.”
“I know,” I say.
Then out of nowhere, Shine asks,
“Aren’t we supposed to save the world or
something?”

4
Where to Go?
“Yeah, we have to stop the disease
from killing everyone. Do you know a
place where we can do that?” I ask.
“Would the factory where we make all
the diseases be the right place to go?”
Shine asks in her high-pitched voice.
“Yes, we can destroy the diseases
there,” I say.
“Uh, I’m sorry to burst your bubble,
but it isn't going to be that easy,”
Twinkle says disappointingly. “Remember,
there are swarms of robots there.”
“And 5.7 800 is there,” Shine adds.

5.7 800 is the head robot and is ruthless.
“I have one more disc. I could reprogram him,” I
suggest.
“Then we can blow up the factory making the disease
and making the robots,” says Shine.
She looks eager to see something blow up.
“I think we've got a plan,” I say happily.
“I hope you know that was the last of the air that
cures people from the disease, so if you get the disease
again, Eveline, you will die,” Twinkle says
frustratingly.
“Twinkle, Twinkle, always with the negativity; be
positive,” I say.
“So, shall we go,” says Twinkle, changing the
subject.
“Yeah, let’s go,” says Sparkle. She startled me
because she has not said anything in the conversation for
a while.

We start to walk toward the transport
area. I learned a long time ago in history
class that it used to be called airport and
how they got around to places that are far
away is they took a thing that flies in the
air called an airplane.
Finally, we get there. There are guard
robots everywhere. We go to the back door.
It is locked. Sparkle, Twinkle and Shine go
through the robots in front who still think
that they are on their side. I wait by the
back door until they let me in.

In the transport area, there are two
enormous circles - one for going places and
one for coming back. I walk up to the first
huge circle and type in on the little iPad
"New Greenland." That's where the factory is
located; right now we are in the united
states of Chile. We all step into the
immense circle. We are floating through a
black tube-like thing.
Soon enough, we end up in New Greenland's
transport area. We walk out of the right
circle. There is even more guards then
before. One is pointing a gun at us.
