But he received an alarm clock instead.
Will Andy take the easy way out
Or will he rise to the challenge
Of taking care of his new pet clock?

"My dog, Nancy loves it when i
rub her tummy!" Ryan
beamed.
Andy sure envied Ryan
Because all Andy wanted was a furry companion,
just like Ryan
He decided it was time to ask Mummy for one
when he got home.

“Mummy, can I have a pet dog
please? I promise I’ll take good
care of it!” Andy said.
Mummy scratched her chin, “I
don’t know, Andy. I don’t think
you’re ready for one.”
Andy’s face fell.
“But, I promise I will have something for you tomorrow!” Mummy
exclaimed.
“Something better than a pet?” Andy’s eyes glistened with
excitement.
The next morning couldn’t come soon enough. Andy leapt out of bed.
“Good morning Mummy! Can I have my surprise now?”
Andy asked, jumping around.
“Yes you can, if you stop jumping around like a monkey else
you’ll break something!” Mummy laughed. “Here you go Andy!”
she said, thrusting her arms out.

“This is your new pet!”
Mummy replied.
Andy studied the silver circular object.
“But this is an alarm clock!”
“Well, yes it is, but I want you to
think of it as a real pet!” Mummy
said, smiling.
Andy raised his eyebrows, confused.
“What’s this Mummy?”
Andy agreed but it was obvious he was disappointed.
“How am I supposed to take care of this?” he thought. “Oh! I could
just ask Ryan in school!”
At school, Andy approached Ryan.
“Ryan, so my mummy gave me an alarm clock instead of a pet dog that
I asked for. Could you give me some suggestions on how to take care
of it?”
Ryan was deep in thought.
“Well, i suppose you could pat your clock? Perhaps walk it, feed it and
wash it! Well, that’s what I do for my dog!”
Andy decided to follow Ryan’s advice when he got home.

Andy patted his clock. His hands started to
hurt from continuously patting it.
Andy took the alarm clock for a walk.
He tied the alarm clock with a rope and
dragged it along the rocky pavement.

Andy fed the alarm clock.
He stuffed any pieces of any food he could
find into the openings of the alarm clock.
Bread, noodles, biscuits and
burgers! How yummy!

He soaked the alarm clock in a bathtub full of soap,
rubbing its surface with all his might to clean it.
Andy grinned.
He was satisfied with how well he took care of the
clock.
