Once upon a time a kind Queen, named Leah,
and her honest King, named Stefan, had a
beautiful baby girl, named Aurora. A friendly
neighboring kingdoms King, Hubert, suggested
their five year old son, Prince Phillip, be
betrothed to Princess Aurora. King Stefan and
Queen Leah agreed since it would join the
kingdoms. The celebration of the new princess
was long and many gifts were given to her.

Three fairy's, that were friends of the Queen,
gave the baby three special gifts. Flora, the red
fairy, gives Aurora the gift of beauty. Fauna, the
green fairy, gives Aurora the gift of song.
Before Merryweather, the blue fairy, can give
her gift a dark smoke cloud appears. A dark
sorcerer, named Maleficent, steps out of the
smoke. "Why was I not invited to give a gift to
the Princess?" asked Maleficent bitterly. "You
are not welcome here" said Fauna, but
Maleficent wasn't leaving yet.

"I also have a gift to give the Princess" snarled
Maleficent. "Your gift is not wanted" said Flora.
Maleficent still held her ground, she was
determined to give her gift. "Please, just leave
us in peace" begged Queen Leah, she knew
that Maleficent was very powerful. Maleficent
raised her arms and announced "On Aurora's
sixteenth birthday she will prick her finger on a
spinning wheel and die!" Everybody gasped,
then green flames rose around Maleficent and
she disappeared.

Queen Leah acted quickly. She arranged for all
of the spinning wheels in the kingdom to be
burned. Then the three good fairy's offered to
raise Aurora somewhere far away to hide her
from Maleficent. The good fairy's searched far
and wide until they found a secure hiding place
to raise Aurora. The good fairy's meet up with
Queen Leah in secret so they could take Aurora
to the safe house without anyone knowing.

The three good fairy's turned themselves into
normal people so they could raise Aurora. They
also agreed not to use magic. They took Aurora
to the small cabin in the woods they had found.
The three good fairy's didn't know how to raise
a baby and without magic it was going to be
hard for them. Poor baby Aurora didn't know
what was going on and she missed her mother.
Her mother missed Aurora as well but knew this
was for the best.

The good fairy's hid who Aurora was from her.
They renamed her Briar Rose to hide her
identity. The good fairy's also told Aurora they
were her aunts and that her parents had
passed away. Aurora lived a simple life in the
wood and her Aunts taught her everything she
needed to know. Aurora often wondered what
life would be like somewhere else. She wished
to meet a young man who would take her away
to a far away place in her dreams.

One day while Briar Rose was strolling thought
the forest singing a young, handsome man
approached her. "That was beautiful" said the
young man. Briar Rose had never seen a man
but she had read about them in books so she
knew how to be polite. "Hello sir, what is your
name?" she asked. The man smiled and said,
"My name is Phillip, what is yours?" Briar Rose
thought Phillip was very handsome and so she
told him her name "I am Briar Rose." They
talked until the sun set then Briar Rose had to
go home.

Aurora met Phillip in the woods often and soon
fell in love with him; Phillip fell in love with
Aurora as well. When Phillip told his father he
was furious because Phillip was betrothed to
Aurora. Briar Rose meanwhile was excited
because the next day was her birthday. Her and
Phillip planed to meet at the cottage and Aurora
was going to introduce Phillip to her Aunts as
the love of her life. Phillip planed to ask her
hand in marriage. They didn't know they were
really betrothed to each other already.

When Aurora returned home that night from
picking berries, her three Aunts had a cake and
dress fit for a princess waiting for her. Aurora
was overwhelmed with joy but the joy didn't
last when she found out she was a princess and
she was betrothed. "No, I fell in love with a boy
I met in the forest" cried Aurora. "I'm sorry my
dear, you can never see him again" said Flora.
Fauna reminded them "We must go if we are
going to make it to the castle before sunset."

The good fairy's took Aurora to her new
bedroom in the castle. Aurora was very sad
that she could never see Phillip again since she
was betrothed to a prince. The good fairy's
decided to give her some alone time to think
about her future as a princess. Then all of a
sudden a green globe appeared and Aurora was
put into a trance. She followed the green globe
to the attic of an unused wing of the castle.

Aurora entered an old musty room and in it was
the last spinning wheel. Aurora did not not
know about the curse and she had never seen a
spinning wheel since all of them were
destroyed. One spinning wheel was forgotten
and it was sitting in front of Aurora. She
curiously leaned out to touch it as Maleficent
watched eagerly from the shadows. Aurora
pricked her finger and as a tiny drop of blood
fell to the ground she fell into a deep sleep.
