The love of my life

Once upon a time....... Well actually, just the other day, my
mummy gave me a beautiful bracelet.

It was one of her very own but the diamonds had started to fall out so she let me keep it. It was gold and the diamonds
sparkled in the sun. I promised I would look after it and not
lose any more diamonds.

Just to be sure I could keep a close eye on it,
I wore my bracelet everywhere.
I wore it when I rode my bike,

I wore it when I played in my cubby house,

with my chickens.

I wore it when I went to the park,

and I wore it when I played in the
garden with my chickens.

One day when I was in the garden with my favorite chicken,
I counted the diamonds just to be sure I was doing a good job.
There were twelve diamonds when my mum gave me the
bracelet.
One, Two, Three, Four,
Five, Six, Seven, Eight,
Nine, Ten, Eleven, Eleven......
ELEVEN!
Oh no, there is only eleven
diamonds!
I've lost a diamond.
I promised I would be so careful.
What am I going to do?
I had to look for my missing diamond. I thought about all the places I had been that day. Since I counted my diamonds last I had ridden my bike to my cubby house and made a pretend cake. I had watered my pot plants and played in my pond. I had let the chickens out and collected their eggs. I fixed up the chicken's nest with new bedding and played in the flowers nearby.
Oh how would I find my diamond with so many places to look? I decided to start by following my day in reverse.

First I went thru the garden where I played in the flowers. I looked under daisies and inside roses, crawled thru camellias and ruffled the lilies. I tiptoed through the tulips and rummaged in
the leaves.
I could not see my diamond anywhere!

I went to the hen house and looked all around. I looked in the water bowl, I looked in the feed. I crawled around on my hands and knees and the chickens started to peck at the ground as I uncovered new dirt for them. Still no diamond!

My mummy and daddy have read me a story about a goose that laid a
golden egg, but I like my story about a chicken that could poop
diamonds better. It's much more realistic.
