Russian ballet is a beautiful art form, especially 

Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake which is increasingly 

famous and revered as beautiful not only in Russia 

but other countries as well. 

This is one of the best known Byzantine church's 

in Russia known as Saint Basil's Cathedral in 

Moscow. 

Traditional Russian clothing consists of colorfully 

embroidered shirts and blouses, embroidered head-

wear, and shoes woven from bast: a fiber made 

from trees. 

Russia’s economy rebounded strongly in 2000 

after the collapse of their currency. Currently 

though they are facing another economic turn-

down. Oil is one of the most valuable resources 

in Russia and they are one of the major 

exporters of it; their economic welfare is based 

upon the prices of oil around the world. Russia 

also has a lot of natural gas, precious metals, 

timber supplies, and a strong engineering and 

scientific workforce. 

The members of the Russian family closely 

communicate with each other and frequently get 

together, especially on such family occasions as 

birthdays and anniversaries. Also the male or father is 

the head of the family. 

Russia has been a democratic federation of 

republics ever since the collapse of the Soviet 

Union. They currently have presidents that serve 

for 6 year terms and Russia consists of dozens of 

federal administrative units. Today in Russia 

there are many different political parties one of 

which is the communist party, and because of this 

the political landscape is always shifting and 

power changes with each election. 

Most jobs are in the service sector which constitutes 58%, 

Industry is second highest at 31%, and agriculture has 

about 10% of workers employed doing these jobs. The rate 

for males 15 and older is 68% as compared to females, 

many of which work part-time, which is 58%. The 

unemployment rate is 6.1% and children under the age of 

16 are banned from most employment. 

Almost all Russians can read and write, because it is 

considered a vehicle of social advancement . Today, 

public education in Russia remains free for all 

citizens

Russian is the primary 

language spoken in Russia 

and it has three main 

regional accents- southern, 

central, and northern. 

Russian is written in the 

Cyrillic alphabet as well. 

They have roads, railroads, and airport 

facilities. Railroads are one of the most important 

means of transportation in Russia and there are 

also navigable water ways. Also emigration from 

Russia to the West has become more common 

and Russia's net immigration rate accounted to 

0.29 migrants per 1,000 people. 

In Russia they celebrate New Years, Christmas, 

Defenders of the Fatherland Day which is to 

celebrate all the men in the military and they are 

honored on this day, and International Woman's 

Day in which all women are celebrated. 

Russia is composed of political parties and 

groups. The political parties are as follows: the 

Communist party, the Liberal Democratic party, 

United Russia, A Just Russia, Yabloko, Patriots of 

Russia, and Right Cause. Also a chamber of 

commerce operates out of Moscow and promotes 

economic and business activities.
