It had been a long time since Doodle and Blue had an 

adventure with Gram. They were getting very excited!

A year had passed and Doodle and Blue had grown up 

quite a bit. Together they made a very “grown-up” 

decision. They had both decided that they needed to be 

called their “given” name – the name Mommy and Daddy 

gave them when Doodle and Blue were born. 

Now it’s not because they didn’t like their nicknames but 

they were precious special names just between them and 

Gram. Doodle, short for Snickerdoodle, is Kennedy. Blue, 

short for Little Boy Blue, is Cash.

But between Kennedy and Cash, 

they would always 

ALWAYS 

be known as Doodle and Blue 

to Gram! 

Well, Kennedy and Cash were so very eager to have a new adventure 

because this year would be quite different. 

This year Shiloh and Dempsey were going to be included! What fun the 

four of them would have. 

“Hmmm,” wondered Cash. “Maybe I should pack up my Lego's. We may 

need them on our adventure!” Immediately Dempsey went to retrieve 

the big bin of Cash’s Lego's and they all sat down to create something 

to take with them.

“We should pack some snacks!” 

Kennedy added. “You all know how 

hungry we always are!” Cash, Shiloh 

and Dempsey all nodded in 

agreement.

Finally, after what seemed a very 

long time, Gram showed up.

“Ok, guys! Pile into the van and off we go!” 

she declared.   In they piled and off they went.

"Wait, wait," shouted Cash. "We forgot the Lego's!" "No need." 

reassured Gram. "Lego's are not necessary today!"

“Where are we going? What are we going to do? Are we going to 

the beach?” the kiddos all asked at once.

Gram just laughed. “You guys go to the beach all the time 

because you live in Florida!” she declared. “Let’s do something 

different today!” They all agreed and knew whatever it was that 

Gram had planned, it would be a fun day. Shiloh and Dempsey just 

grinned because they had heard 

about other adventures Kennedy and Cash had 

and were just so excited to share this one.

Gram drove for a while as all laughed and sang songs to make the 

time go by faster. Gram decided a snack stop was in order. Yeah!

Pretty soon all were back in the van and eventually stopped right next 

to a great big field that the kiddo's had never seen before.

It's difficult to find a clearing in Florida as there are so many palm 

trees everywhere. After all got out of the van, Gram was pulling stuff 

out of the back.

What in the world??

Everyone was oh so excited! Gram helped Kennedy and 

Cash and Shiloh and Dempsey open up their kites and 

attach the string.

"Now before you take off across the 

field with your kites, I need to tell you 

that these kites are very special. They 

are magic kites." Gram said.

The kiddos just looked at each other wondering 

whether to believe Gram or if she was making a joke. 

After all, they had never heard of a magic kite!

Kennedy and Cash and Shiloh and Dempsey looked up at Gram. 

Sure enough, she had a twinkle in her eye.

Gram went on to explain, "When all the kites are flying up in 

the air, hang on and see what happens."

Ok then.

Everyone took off running, each with 

their own kite.

Cash was careful to stay with Shiloh 

as was Kennedy with Dempsey in case 

the little ones needed help.

Well, 

Kennedy and Cash and Shiloh and Dempsey 

were having so much fun that they forgot what Gram had said 

about "magic kites."

Until. . .

All of a sudden Dempsey shouted with glee. "Look, I'm flying!" 

Oh my gracious. He WAS flying!

Up, up, up he went and the others were so focused 

on Dempsey that they didn't realize they, too, had 

left the ground.

"Hold tight!" Gram shouted from the ground. And 

hold tight they did! 

Kennedy and Cash and Shiloh and Dempsey were 

afraid and excited at the same time.

What would happen next? Where would they end 

up? How would they get down?
