A few centuries ago, after the death of the great
dragon Smaug, there lived a pirate named Graybeard.
This man always wore old purple clothes and had a
large, gray, and scruffy beard. Graybeard was the
captain of a mighty ship named the Warrior. He lived
on the ship with his sword-wielding first mate, Morgan.
One day, they were sailing on the Lonely Mountain's
Ocean when they came across a floating bottle with a
slip of paper inside. They decided to lower a bucket
down to get it. When they opened the bottle up, the slip
of paper turned out to be a treasure map!

They were very excited. Neither of them had much
for themselves, so they agreed to go on a quest for
the treasure.
"Wait!" said Graybeard, "we should request the
help of Thorin Oakenshield!"
"Yes, I have heard many tales of his adventures. He
will be a great ally," said Morgan They sailed into
shore near the Lonely Mountain only to find Thorin in
all blue clothes with a long, dark beard on the beach.
"Hello, Thorin!" shouted Graybeard, "how would
you like to partake in a quest for riches?"
"What will the mighty Thorin Oakenshield receive if
I agree?" he asked vainly.

"One-third of all the gold that we find," said
Graybeard. Thorin accepted, and they set off on their
glorious quest at once. While Morgan sailed the ship,
Graybeard unfurled the map to see where they needed
to go and noticed there were extra directions. The map
read:
To find the treasure of Triton, the king of the sea,
you must pass his three trials. First, you must follow
the speedy golden fish through the underwater maze of
coral. You must then sail through the treacherous Siren
Alley. Last, you must defeat the giant serpent of the
sea.

After they had started sailing in the correct direction,
a small, golden fish leaped out of the water.
"Look!" said Morgan, "we must follow it through the
maze or the ship will be destroyed on the rocks and
coral below!" Graybeard piloted the ship as best as he
could, but they could only see the faint glow of sunlight
reflected off the fish. Soon enough, they had lost sight
of it. Thorin had an idea to bring the fish back quickly.
He grabbed a piece of cheese from the extra food they
had on deck and threw it in the water. The fish
immediately smelled the cheese and came swimming
back. After it finished its meal, it led the ship out safely.
