The first rocket to put humans on the moon
was built in NASA's Marshall Space Flight

A beach is a landform located along the
shoreline of an ocean, lake or river. That is
usually made up of sand, gravel, pebbles
,and shells.
Fun Fact:
According to the Guinness World Records,
the tallest sandcastle ever made was in
Connecticut, USA, in May 2011. It was 37
feet tall.

C is for CaveA cave is an opening in the surface of earth.
Caves form slowly over millions of years.
There are numerous types of caves, for
example; sea caves, river caves, ice caves,
and sandstone caves, among many others.

Some caves are so small one person might
not fit inside while others are so enormous
they are bigger than some football fields.

D is for Desert A desert is an area of very dry land that
is usually covered with sand and is very
hot because it gets very little rain.
Fun Fact:
Only certain types plants can live in the
desert. For example, wildflowers,
cactuses, and shrubs all have special
features that help them get the water
they need to survive in the desert.

E is for EquatorThe equator is an imaginary line around
the middle of the Earth that is the same
distance from the North Pole and South
Pole.
Fun Fact:
The equator is about 25,000 miles long.

F is for ForestA Forest is a large area filled with tall trees,
bushes, and other plants.
The trees in the forest can live for thousands of
years and grow hundreds of meters tall.
Forest provide shelter for animals and wood for
humans.
Fun Fact:
There are many different types of forests. For
example; Tropical Rain forests, Mediterranean
forests, Temperate forests, and Plantation
forest, among others.

study of earth's physical features. For
example, mountains, deserts, rivers, and
oceans.

People who study geography are called
geographers.

H is for Hot SpringsA place where hot water flows out of the
ground usually due to volcanic activity below
the ground.
Fun Fact:
In Yellowstone National Park the hot springs
can reach a temperature that is higher than
boiling point.

I is for IslandAn island is an area of land surrounded by
water on all sides and it is smaller than a
continent.Small islands are sometimes called
cays, keys, or islets.There are two main type
of islands; continental islands and oceanic
islands.

A group of islands is often called an
archipelago.

J is for JungleA jungle is a thick tropical forest with
overgrown and tangled vegetation. A
jungle is dangerous even for the animals
that live there.
Fun Fact:
Jungles are like forests but they allow more
light, which results in plants growing
faster.

K is for KansasKansas is located in the middle of the
United States. It is one of the states
within the Great Plains. The national
flower of Kansas is the Sunflower.
Fun Fact: Amelia Earhart, the first
woman to fly alone across the Atlantic
, was from Atchinson, Kansas.

L is for Lake SuperiorLake Superior is the biggest fresh water lake in
the United States. The deepest point is about
1,300 feet. Lake Superior contains about 10
percent of all the Earth's fresh water.
Fun Fact:
The surface area of Lake Superior is 31,700
square miles.

M is for The Mississippi RiverThe Mississippi River is one of the longest river
in North America, it is about 2,340 miles long. It
is home to over 350 species of fish.
Fun Fact:
The Mississippi River goes through: Louisiana,
Mississippi, Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky,
Missouri, Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin and
Minnesota.

N is for Niagara FallsNiagara Falls is the combination of three
waterfalls. The State Park is the oldest
state park in the U.S.A., established in
1885.Niagars Falls is located in New
York.
Fun Fact:
About 3,160 tons of water flows over
Niagara Falls every second.

O is for OceanAn Ocean is a body of salt water that covers
a large area. There are many oceans. The
Artic Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, Pacific Ocean,
Indian Ocean, and Antartic Ocean.

P is for Peninsula
A peninsula is a piece of land that is surrounded by
water on three sides and is attached to a larger
piece of land. The state of Florida is peninsula, it is
surrounded by water on three sides but it is attached
to the rest of the United States.

Q is for QuarryA quarry is a place, typically a large,
deep pit, from which stone or other
materials are or have been extracted.
Fun Fact:
Quarries have been used for thousands
of years. Ancient Egyptians built the
Great Pyramids with massive limestone
and granite blocks cut by hand from
nearby quarries.
