One day on planet Hoppiton, an Hoppit named Bilb wasresting outside of his Hoppit Hole when an unfamiliar
alien walked up to him. The visitor bid him a good
morning and Bilb returned the favor. After introducing
himself as Gandalf, the visitor did something quite
unexpected, he asked Bilb if he would like to go on an
adventure. Now the Hoppits were a very timid people
and did not care much for adventuring. Because of this,
Bilb politely declined Gandalf's offer. Then he quickly
scurried back into his Hoppit Hole to avoid any further
ridiculous requests. Gandalf just smiled and etched a
simple design into the Hoppit's front door. He knew that
he would be changing his mind soon enough.

The next day Bilb was awakened by a knocking at hisdoor. This confused him because he was not expecting any
company that morning. When he hopped out of his hole,
he saw several green skinned creatures waiting
impatiently outside. As soon as he appeared, the group
introduced themselves and handed him their coats. Bilb
tried to tell them they must have the wrong Hoppit, but
they ignored him and instead helped themselves to the
contents of his kitchen. Soon after them, Gandalf arrived,
making fourteen guests in total. By this time, Bilb was
beginning to get very frustrated with all the people
barging into his house uninvited. When the guests finally
stopped stuffing themselves long enough to pay attention
to Bilb's questioning, they explained that they were

on a quest to take back a treasure that had been stolen fromthem. They were going to the lair of Smaug on the Lonely
Planet to find the Moonstone, a precious gem belonging to the
king of the swarves. They asked him to be their burglar, but
Bilb promptly refused. The swarves were disappointed, but
agreed to continue on the next morning without him. When Bilb
woke up, the house seemed very quiet compared to the night
before. In the silence, he thought about how boring his life was
and in a momentary lapse of reason decided to chase after the
swarves and join their party. As the days wore on and the
traveling less became comfortable, Bilb began to wonder if he
made the right decision. One night as they rested on a small
forest covered planet, they heard yelling and saw a fire in the
distance. As they got closer, they saw a group of gelatinous
creatures surrounding a campfire. Bilb was sent to check it out

as a test of his burglaring skills. As he silently crept upbehind one of the jiggling monsters, he heard a shout
from the surrounding trees. Another one of the slimy
beasts had found and captured his friends! They shoved
the swarves into sacks and nearly roasted them over the
fire. But then, Bilb lept into action and distracted the
angry aliens by telling them riddles. He managed to keep
it up just long enough for the sun to rise and dry out their
moist exteriors. He untied the bags imprisoning the
swarves and they thanked him for saving them. This was
only the first of many obstacles to come. Further across
the galaxy they came upon an asteroid field they decided
it would be faster to pass through. Their ship was badly
damaged and they were forced to land on a mountainous

planet nearby. A storm was raging on this planet andthey had to find shelter. They discovered a little cave and
all crowded in with little room to spare. Bilb had trouble
sleeping that night and found himself staring at the roof
of the cavern for what seemed like hours. Out of the
corner of his eye, he saw a crack open in the wall and
several figures stepped out. They seized Bilb and his
friends and dragged them into the depths of the mountains.
They were brought before the Great Noblin, who owned
the cave they had been resting in. He was so angry with
them for sleeping on his property that he ordered them
to be put to death. Luckily for them Gandalf was able
to free himself and cast a spell on the Great Noblin,
killing him. The other noblins howled with rage and
