Once upon a time, there was a little boy
named Henry. He lived in a place called
Stirling. Sadly he had to live all alone.
His father had been a knight of the King
and had died in a war. His mother and
little sister had gotten sick, leaving him
all alone. He was smart though, so he
survived.

Henry would go deep into the woods for food. He would
pick apples from the trees and berries from the bushes.
He tried to hunt but he never caught anything but he
was happy anyways.

Henry dreamed of being a
knight like his father had been.
It was the thought that made
him get up in the morning and
go to school.
Yet no one thought he
could be a knight because
he was so small.

You're too small to be a knight! And you are weird Rose!

Henry liked learning at school, but he didn't
like the bullies. Thomas was an older boy
that liked to tease Henry. He also liked to
tease Henry's only friend Rose. She was the
smartest in the class. Thomas didn't like
that a girl was smarter than him. Rose was
the only one that believed Henry could be a
knight. Neither Henry or Rose even fought
back against Thomas or the other bullies.
They were too scared to.

After school that day Henry went into the
woods to pick apples. While he was out there
he saw a stranger. His mother had taught him
not to talk to strangers.

So Henry ran all the way home. When he got home
the sun was setting and it was getting cold. He tried
to make a fire but it wouldn't start. Henry was really
sad. Now he would be cold and hungry all night.

The stranger followed him home though. It was a
nice stranger who said his name was Eli. He offered
Henry a warm place to spend the night and food to
eat.

Eli had worked for the king but had been
banished. He had predicted something wrong
for the king. Now he lived alone. He had
always wanted a family so he decided to
adopt Henry.

In the morning Eli offered to train
Henry to become a knight. Henry
was so excited and promised to
help around the house and be
good if Eli trained him.

That day when Thomas tried to bully Rose, Henry
stood up to him. It was the beginning of his
courage.
