Space is everywhere around the planets.
Planets are a bit like worlds.
Earth is a planet.
There are eight planets in space.
The sun does not count as a planet.
Pluto does not claim to be a planet and is said as a dwarf planet.
Space has thousands of stars, so many it is impossible to count them all.

The sun is a big ball of fire in space.
Nobody has ever landed on the sun but many have tried.
The sun is what makes light on earth and other planets.

The sun isn't just fire on the outside, it is fire all the way through.

Mercury is the closest planet to the sun.
It is not easily see during twilight.
A year on Mercury is only 88 days long, 59 earth days.
Mercury is the smallest planet in the solar system.
Despite being so close to the sun, Mercury is the second hottest planet.

Venus
A day on Venus lasts longer than a year on earth.
Venus rotates in opposite direction as most other planets.
Venus is the second brightest thing in the night sky.
Venus is often called earth's sister planet.
Venus is the hottest planet in our solar system.
The Russians sent the first mission to Venus.

Earth
Earth is the safest place in the solar system to live.
The earth's rotation is gradually slowing down.
The earth was once believed to be the centre of the universe.
Earth has a powerful magnetic field.
There is only one natural satellite of planet earth.
Earth is the only planet not named after a god.

Mars is home to the tallest mountain in the solar system.
Only 18 missions to Mars have been successful.
Mars has the largest dust storms in the solar system.
On Mars the sun appears half the size as it does on Earth.
Pieces of Mars have fallen to Earth.

Jupiter
Jupiter is the fourth brightest object in the solar system.
Jupiter has the shortest days of all the planets, 9 hours 55 minutes.
Jupiter orbits the sun every 11.8 earth years.
The great red spot is a huge storm on Jupiter.
Jupiter has a thin ring system.
Eight spacecraft have visited Jupiter.
