Bailey was ready. It was almost time for her quiz, but she hadn't studied. It seemed as though she was doomed to fail, until she noticed Eliza Basse's paper. Eliza was super smart, and she wrote her answers big. Bailey pondered her problem. She wasn't sure whether or not to cheat. She finally decided that it wasn't cheating, it was just using her resources. She leaned over, and began to copy Eliza's answers. The assignment was to make a recipe for one of the foods the recipe book had, using only a notecard and a pencil. It was the kind of assignment Eliza loved, but Bailey hated.

When Bailey got home, her parents were elated. They were very pleased that she had gotten a good grade on her test, so they threw her a party. They invited her friends and family, and gave her many gifts. Then her mom got an email. It was Mrs. Berk, who was her teacher. The email read:
Dear Angela Buchet,
I would like to inform you that your daughter Bailey Butchet recently completed a quiz in class, but her answer to the prompt was quite similar, the same in fact, to a classmate's answers. I wasn't under the impression that Bailey would cheat, but I certainly may be mistaken. It is my sincerest hope that Bailey didn't cheat, but I suggest you ask her.
Thanks, Madoline Berk

"Bailey, did you cheat on your test?" asked Mrs. Buchet. "Of course not!" lied Bailey. "Why would I cheat?" Mrs. Buchet smiled, and told Bailey that she was sorry, and they planned to travel to the beach on a vacation. When the happy family arrived on the beach, they were the only ones there. They took it as a sign, and went swimming! Bailey put on a bathing suit she got for her birthday, and her parents jumped in too. The happy family splashed around for a bit, until a man appeared and shouted,"SHARK!!!" They ran out of the water, then laughed as they decided to leave for the day!

When they returned from their vacation, Bailey felt very guilty. She was so ashamed, she decided to tell no more lies. So for the rest of the week, no lies, not even the smallest one escaped from Bailey's mouth, except for when Mrs. Berk asked her if she had cheated, and if so, even a little bit, that she must tell her. Bailey felt as though this wasn't a new lie, so she shouldn't have to tell the truth, so she told her that she hadn't. Mrs. Berk smiled, then wandered away. Bailey then resolved to tell Mrs. Berk the truth.
