Hi! I'm Enrique!
2
Enrique is a Musk ox. He is a large, hairy mammal who eats plants such as moss, lichen, and grass.
Enrique lives in the tundra. Tundras are cold areas located in places such as the North of Canada, Russia, Alaska and northern Siberia.

FUN FACT! I'm almost as heavy as a polar bear!

More about where I live...
4
Tundras are large places in or around the arctic circle. Because they are near the arctic, they are very cold places to live. That is why there are not many plants or animals that live year round!
In the tundra, it is almost always winter! But, for a few months every year, it becomes summer! In these months it can be 35-50 degrees outside, but in the winter months, it can be -35 degrees out!
Due to it's climate, the tundra hardly ever has rainfall. Every year there can be at most, 6-10 inches of rain!

6
This is Monty, Enrique's best friend.
Monty is a bird, unlike Enrique, and instead of being a Musk ox, Monty is a Tundra Swan.
Tundra swans weigh about as much as a sack of potatoes.

FUN FACT! My favorite foods are seeds and small aquatic mammals! Corn and wheat are good as a snack as well.

7
Since Tundra Swans are migratory birds,
Monty is looking for a summer vacation house. Enrique however, is looking for a new house to live in year round.

Me too!

Find me a home!

9
At first, they found a cave! It was very big, and Enrique liked it very much.
Unfortunately, this cave already had an owner...
Skibald the Polar bear!

FUN FACT! My fur isn't white at all, it just reflects all visible colors of light!

10

11
Skibald is a carnivorous mammal, and he was very hungry.
Enrique and Monty quickly ran away because they did not want to become his next snack...
FUN FACT! When I stand up on my back legs, I'm as tall as a basketball net!

12

13

FUN FACT! I get my name because bears love eating me!

Bearberry

FUN FACT! To keep predators away, I form a pesticide!
14
As they traveled around, Monty and Enrique neared the edge of the tundra and started to see many types of plants, like bearberries, a diamond leaf willow, arctic moss, and Labrador tea!

FUN FACT! I can grow to be as tall as a 5th grader!
Labrador Tea
FUN FACT! Arctic moss can grow underwater!
