A is for Alarm

Whenever there’s trouble in the city, an alarm goes off at the firehouse letting the firefighters know that someone needs help.

B is for Bunker

Bunker gear is the equipment that firefighters have to wear. It has boots, pants, coat, radio, and personal hand tools

C is for City

Every city in the world has many fire stations. The closest station to the scene of the threat will get called in to rescue survivors.

D is for Douse

To douse a fire, firefighters use water from their water hose to decrease the flames.

E is for Extinguisher

If there’s a small fire in most building, they're fire extinguishers. It is used to stop the fire from spreading and catching other things in flames. Fire extinguishers have carbon dioxide (CO2), the same thing we breathe out which helps against fires and potassium bicarbonate (KHCO3), you can find in club soda.

Firefighters have to be really careful when dealing with fire. Fire can be from 750 degrees Fahrenheit up to a 1,100 degress Fahrenheit

F is for Fahrenheit

To make sure that whatever trouble they face, they can handle it, and firefighters have a ton of gear on them or inside their fire truck. They have their helmet, breathing apparatus a light, and bunker gear.

G is for Gear

When firefighters must wear a hood under their helmet. The hood is used to protect the firefighter’s ears, neck and other areas the helmet can’t cover.

H is for Hood

Firefighters respond immediately when they get radioed in. They put on their uniform and gear, get inside the fire truck and go straight to where hazard is.

I is for Immediately

Firefighters sometimes have to rescue people from trapped vehicles. They use the Jaws of Life, which has cutters, spreaders and rams. They use the tool to cut the vehicle or spread apart metal.

J is for Jaws

Sometimes, to reach to the person that’s need their help, firefighters have to knock down doors to enter into the place that’s on fire and the roofs to reduce the amount of smoke that’s inside

K is for Knock

If there’s a fire that’s really high up, firefighters can use 24-foot ladders. Firefighters climb up the ladder and are able to enter where the fire is and help people escape the fire.

L is for Ladder

Both ambulances and fire trucks both respond to medical calls. There could be a chance that the victim could be in danger when they made the call and they need both ambulance and firefighter help.

M is for Medical

Firefighter needs to have all of their equipment, uniform and gear on and ready before leaving the fire station.

N is for Need

Firefighters can face a lot of obstacles when trying to rescue someone and save the day. They have to deal with fires, accidents, rope rescue, animal rescue and water rescue.

O is for Obstacles

When firefighters get a call, firefighters must slide down the pole, get dressed and ready to save the day.

P is for Pole

All firefighters must think on their toes. They have to be quick, safe and smart about how they’re going to rescue people and stop dangerous fires.

Q is for Quick

Firefighters have rules called Professional Rescuers Rule, which are common law restrictions for public safety officials. All firefighters, police officers have to follow these laws

R is for Rule

During the day, firefighters are at the fire station. Inside there is the fire truck, equipment, the fireman’s pole and an alarm for when danger is out there, they get the call

S is for Station

Firefighters arrive to the scene of trouble with their fire truck. A fire truck has everything they need to save someone who needs their help.

T is for Truck
