Basketball by Om
Do you ever wonder why kids like to play Basketball afterschool? It is healthy and fun play. People can make new friends. Imagine you are going to basketball practice and you think it will be the worst because everyone on your team is someone you don’t know, but when you get there, there are a lot of your friends on your team. Not all of them are your friends, but when the season is over you made a few more friends. Also basketball makes your arms and legs stronger. Don’t forget that when you play basketball, running across the court makes your legs stronger! While dribbling, passing, catching, shooting, and rebounding makes your hands stronger. Did you know that basketball helps to develop self-discipline too? When you play basketball following the rules is important because if you break them then there can be penalties not just for you, but also for your fellow teammates. In basketball, you can make more friends, improve your arms and legs, develop self-discipline, and more. To do this all you have to do is play one little game of basketball.

Limerick:
Basketball, basketball over your hair,
The ball is in the air.
Flying high,
In the sky.
You ask why the guy is in a chair.

Soccer by Cheenie
Have you ever wondered why kids like to play soccer after school? One of the reasons is that they can choose to play with their friends or even by themselves. If they are playing with their friends, you might be doing a scrimmage which is a small game of soccer. The point of a scrimmage is for you to try get better at defending the ball or trying to score at the goal. Or if your friends can’t play with you, then you can always play by yourself to try to get better or to practice some new moves for an upcoming soccer game. Secondly is that you can learn new moves. Kids like learning new moves because they might feel happy and excited when they finally get the soccer move right. For example, I remember when I first got my soccer move right I was so happy and proud of myself. The soccer move that I did was called the Maradona move. To do it, you have to spin in a 360 degree circle so you can go around the defender. Another reason might be that you like to meet new people and make new friends.

You can meet new people because you might be playing against their team. For example, I remember the time my sister Chyna meet someone new because she was playing against their team. After the game they played together and now they are best friends, and they have playdate. I like to play soccer after school because I meet new people, get to learn new moves and I can play with someone or not which is why soccer is my favorite sport to do after school!

Karate by Owen
“Hia! Hia!” The sound of kiais echo around the room as people practice karate. Many kids come here after school and say it is a fun activity. Why? It might have something to do with ranks and tests. Tests are an exciting event where you show the karate teachers everything you have learned. At the end of each test, you get your next rank, and the higher rank you are, the more complex material you learn. Sparring is also a fun karate activity in which you fight each other and work on your self-defense skills. You might be wondering, “Isn’t that super dangerous?” It sure sounds like it, but the soft padding and strict rule against contact make it a very fun and safe part of karate. Sparring can also be an option to compete in in karate tournaments, which are events where karate students compete against each other in different activities such as weapons, sparring, and forms. No wonder so many kids like to do karate after school, given all of the fun and useful things you get to learn!

Girl Scouts by Hannah
Kids like to do Girl Scouts after school because they like to earn badges and help the community. For example, Girl Scouts like to rake leaves in the fall to help the elderly. Also, when Girl Scouts rake leaves, they earn a badge. When Girl Scouts earn badges, they keep them on either a sash or a vest. In Girl Scouts there are six rankings, or levels. When you are kindergarten or first grade, you are called Daisies. In 2nd-3th grade, you are called Brownies. In the 4th-5th grade, you are called a Junior. In 6th-8th grade, you are a Cadette. In 9th-10th grade, you are called a Senior. Lastly, in 11th-12th grade, you are called an Ambassador. I'm a Girl Scout you should be one too, and if you are a boy, you can always be a Boy Scout.
