So nice to meet you, Pilar. I can't wait to show you around!
Gracias, Carl! I'm so excited! Where are we going first?
2
Carl the caterpillar and Pilar the parrot met one day while walking on a country road. Carl soon learned that Pilar was from the Caribbean and had never been to the United States. So, Carl decided to take Pilar on a tour to show her some of his favorite natural landmarks in the U.S.

We're going to see Mt. Denali, the Grand Canyon, Niagara Falls, the Everglades, and Yellowstone!

3

This is Mt. Denali! It gets so cold up there that a human could freeze in an instant!

4
Mt. Denali is the tallest mountain peak in North America measuring 20,310 feet! It is located in Denali National Park in Alaska and is part of the Alaska Range. Few visitors have tried to reach it because of the extreme weather and conditions.
The upper half is permanently covered in snow and many glaciers more than 30 miles long!

5

Can you believe the Grand Canyon is 1 mile deep?!

Incredible!

6
The Grand Canyon is positioned in Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona. It is 277 miles long and up to 18 miles wide. It was carved over many, many years by the Colorado River. About five million visitors witness this natural landmark every year.

Visitors can take mule rides down to the base of the canyon.
7

Niagara Falls never stops flowing!
Fantastico!

8
Niagara Falls consists of three falls from the Niagara River. They are on the Canadian and U.S. border. There is a combined 750,000 gallons of water per second. Twenty percent of the world's freshwater is contained in the Great Lakes and much of it flows over Niagara Falls.

Once a 63-year-old school teacher went over the Falls in a barrel and survived!

9

Maybe we shouldn't stick around too long!
There are LOTS of alligators here!

10
The Everglades contains the largest subtropical wilderness in the United States. It spans 1.5 million acres and is situated in southern Florida. It is an important habitat for many rare and endangered species such as the manatee and American crocodile.

11

Look at all the buffalo!
I hope we get to see the endangered gray wolf you were telling me about.

12
Yellowstone National Park was the first national park in the U.S. which was established in 1872. It is in Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho. The park is an active super volcano which also contains waterfalls, geysers, and many animals including endangered species.

Old Faithful is a cone geyser that erupts about every 91 minutes with an average of 145 feet!
13

Gracias por todo! I have so much to show you when you visit! Adios!
I had so much fun showing you around the U.S. I can't wait to visit you in the Caribbean!
Carl and Pilar had such a fantastic time touring the U.S. that they promised to get together again soon. Their next adventure would be in the Caribbean.
