People in our community have many different jobs. Each one is very important and keeps our city running smoothly; trash collectors, chefs, politicians. While all jobs are important, every job has a different set of responsibilities and rules to follow.
2
What are some jobs YOU can think of?

3

These are police officers. There are many different types of police officers, but they are all responsible for keeping us safe by enforcing the law. They drive fast cars with flashing lights, wear a uniform and badge, and sometimes have a K9!
4
These are firefighters. They are responsible for keeping us safe by putting out fires and rescuing people. They drive trucks that have flashing lights, a tall ladder, and hose. They wear a big uniform with a helmet and sometimes have a mask or ax.

5
This is a doctor. They are responsible for making sure you are healthy by giving check-ups and keeping track of your health record. Doctors use a stethoscope to listen to your heart beat and thermometer to check your temperature.

6
This is a veterinarian or vet. They help keep our pets healthy, like an animal doctor. When you bring your pet here, they have to be on a leash. Vets use a flashlight to look at our pets eyes.

7
This is a teacher. They are responsible for teaching their students everything they need to know academically. Teachers do this by using books, computers, and activities in their classrooms.

8
Can you think of any other supplies someone might use in a classroom?

Task 1:
How many different tools were listed that people use for jobs in our community? How do you know?
MAFS.K.CC.2.5: Count to answer “how many?” questions about as many as 20 things arranged in a line, a rectangular array, or a circle, or as many as 10 things in a scattered configuration; given a number from 1–20, count out that many objects.

10
Mathematical Practice: MAFS.K12.MP.1.1 Make sense of problems and
persevere in solving them. MAFS.K12.MP.2.1 Reason abstractly and
quantitatively.
Cognitive Demand: Higher-level demands (procedure with connections)
I selected this problem to make students aware of how many tools we mentioned as well as which tools we mentioned. It is also to have the student become familiar with the items they will be using in the next two questions, as well as determine the total number of items present.
