Sarah and her dad stood and looked on as the movers loaded the last of the boxes and closed the door to the moving truck. It was finally time to make the big move.

2
Sarah was eight years old, and she had lived in the same house in the same town her whole life. She had always gone to the same school and had the same group of friends. But now, all of that was about to change.

3
Sarah's Dad had gotten a new job, and now her family was moving to a different state a few hours away.

4
She had spent the first part of her summer spending time with her friends, but now it was time to say goodbye to everything she had ever known.

For the next few weeks, Sarah and her parents settled into their new home. They planted flowers in the yard and painted Sarah's bedroom pink. They also visited some shops and restaurants downtown and got to know some of their neighbors.

The longer Sarah and her parents were in the car, the more sad Sarah began to get. "What is there are no kids in our new neighborhood? What if nobody in my new school wants to be my friend? What if I have to sit by myself at lunch or if no one will play with me on the playground?" Sarah wondered.

All of these thoughts were still swirling around in her head when Sarah and her family arrived at her new house. She just knew that this was going to be a disaster.

Still, Sarah knew that school would be starting in a few days, and her nervousness began to grow.

9
Finally, the day she had been dreading arrived. Sarah woke up early, combed her hair, brushed her teeth, and put on the new outfit she and her mom had picked out at the mall.

10
Dad made her a nice breakfast of cinnamon rolls, eggs, and bacon, but Sarah barely ate anything at all. Before she knew it, it was time to head to school. Sarah gathered her school supplies and put her new backpack in the car. She buckled her seat belt, and the tears began to roll down her cheeks as the car backed down the driveway and they headed towards the school.

11
By the time Sarah and her Mom arrived at school, Sarah had dried her tears and decided she would just have to make the best of her day.

12
Sarah and her Mom walked into the school, where they were greeted by the principal, Mr. Adams. He welcomed Sarah to the school, and walked her to her new classroom.

13
When they arrived in her classroom, Sarah's teacher greeted her with a warm hug and a sweet smile. She immediately felt at ease with her teacher, but as she looked around, she was still wondering if she would be able to make any friends.

14
Sarah timidly looked around the room and eventually settled into a seat near the back of the room. Mom told her goodbye, and Sarah quietly began to unpack her supplies.
