Jimmy is a six year old boy that loves swimming. He was born with polio, which means he has to wear braces on both legs. He can't play sport like normal kids. Despite this, Jimmy always dreamed of being an Olympian. One day, he'd be standing on the podium wearing the green and gold, with a shiny, gold medal around his neck with the rest of Australia cheering him.

'Mummy! Daddy! Come watch the Olympics. The swimming is on", Jimmy exclaimed.

Jimmy's parents came into watch the men's 100m finals with him. After the race, Jimmy told his parents
"One day that is going to be me. I'm going to have better legs and I'm going to win a gold medal in the freestyle event.''
''One day, that will be you.'' His parents smiled whilst hugging him.

The swimming carnival was on at school. Jimmy hated that he had to sit there and watch, while everyone else did his favourite thing ever, swimming.
The boys in his class laughed while saying,
"Jimmy you will never be good at anything."

This just made Jimmy more determined. He insisted the doctors remove his braces as soon as possible. The doctors did but told him he could only do limited exercise.
But Jimmy didn't listen and started swimming straight away.

At first he struggles to complete a lap. But slowly he starts to improve and soon enough he is ready for his first real race.

The day of the race Jimmy is full of excitement. But then he hears the words of his opponents who mock the way he walks to the blocks.
''What are you doing here Jimmy? This is the A grade race!'' Said the boy in lane five.
Jimmy brushed it off and got on with the race.

Jimmy swam his heart out but only managed to come last, much to his disappointment. On his way out a local swimming coach stopped him to talk.
"Hey Jimmy, well done! That was a great effort. I think with some coaching you could get really fast." Jimmy was delighted by this and left the stadium beaming.
