This is dedicated to Martha Washington. She isn't talked about during class, but she's important because she was the women behind George Washington's back.

The protests on the streets because of the Stamp Act.
March 29, 1765
Dear diary,
Today I stumbled into a Loyalist's son. He's 16 and I'm 15, but he's charming. I've seen him around before. I can't afford to like a Loyalist, especially now. Just 7 days ago, Great Britain taxed the colonies on all sorts of paper. They call it the Stamp Act, but I call it nonsense. We have to buy paper from Britain that has a stamp that shows we paid tax. My father is angry because we don't get to help make decisions in the British government. There have been plenty of protests on the streets and we've boycotted British goods. Anyways, I have to run an errand for my mother now. I don't know the next time I'll write. It's hard hiding this diary in the woods and it's even harder writing in it without being caught. I might only come back if something major happens. Until next time.
They are punishing the tax collector.

Dear diary,
I haven't written in this journal in a year. I'll try to be more consistent. In my last diary entry, I wrote about a boy. I've been seeing him in secret in the woods for the past 7 months and his name is Damon. If my father ever found out, he's send me to my uncle in the Virginia colony. Anyways, on a more political note, Britain removed the Stamp Act on March 18 this year. Damon says it's because it's hurting British businesses and I agree. Britain passed the Declaratory Act to replace the Stamp Act. Now they can make laws and taxes in the colonies and we are not happy about it. Just imagine someone controlling your life and you can't say anything about it because they have power. It's terrible right? I have to get going now. It's almost sun down and the animals might come out.
June 15, 1767
Dear diary,
My father found out about Damon and he sent me to my uncle in Virginia. That explains why I've been missing for a year. I'm only here for the summer and I have to go back in September. Damon and I haven't seen each other in a year, but I've sent him letters. It became difficult sending him letters, especially with the new tax. Great Britain passed a tax called Townsend Acts on June 2. They're taxing us on paper, tea, glass, and other imported goods. We're not happy about it. Some people even protested and the Townsend Act is slowly being removed.

Dear diary,
I saw Damon in the town square today. There was another girl by his side and a ring on his finger. I guess a year away from someone really causes problems. Anyways, Britain removed most of the taxes, but they're still taxing us on tea. People are still furious and I fell like this will cause a bigger problem than just taxes.

Dear diary,
I haven't written in 3 years, but I'm back in Boston for a funeral. It turns out Drew wasn't actually engaged and he's still not spoken for. We've reached out to each other and he's moving to Virginia with his father, so I'll see him more often. My family has been grieving because of the Incident on King Street (Boston Massacre) on March 5. There was a crowd of British soldiers and colonists that got involved in an argument. The British soldiers fired the colonists without orders. As a result, 5 people died instantly and some later from there wounds. One of them was a close family friends, his name was Crispus Attucks. After the massacre, the soldiers were arrested for manslaughter. We are angry and the news is spreading fast. I honestly think this will blow out of hand.
January 3, 1773
Dear diary,
I haven't written in 3 years. I've decided to make this journal more about politics instead of my personal life since I'm 22 now. On December 16, 1773 a secret group called Sons of Liberty dressed up as Indians and dumped British tea into the Boston Harbor. It was our way of acting out against the British government. We're angry because they taxed us without having anyone to represent us. The British government punished us by making more laws. One of the laws is called Coercive Acts, but we call it the Intolerable Acts. They closed the Boston Harbor until we pay for the tea. We're heated. No taxation without representation.
April 29, 1775
Dear diary,
2 years has passed and there's still tension between Great Britain and the colonies. The same can be said between Damon and I. My father still forbids me to see him. I'm 24 and I can make my own decisions. The Patriots have also made their own decision to act out against Britain. It all started when Paul Revere rode through the night of April 18 to warn the Patriots that the British were coming. They were coming to take our weapons and to arrest Samuel Adams. Paul Revere's ride gave our men time to prepare and evacuate so we wouldn't be ambushed. Then on April 19, the British soldiers arrived arrived at Lexington and they were ambushed by minutemen. No one knows who fired the first shot, but it caused the entire to erupt. Then after Lexington, the British soldiers went to Concord and was ambushed by
400 minutemen. 73 British soldiers ended up dead and 174 more were wounded. After these past few days, the Patriots have really proved themselves. I can see a brighter future for us. Until next time.

July 10, 1776
Dear diary,
Father finally gave Damon and I permission to see each other. After years of begging, we finally have his blessing. I know it was hard for my father to say yes, especially at this time. The colonies and Great Britain has political conflicts that cause trouble. The colonies are still angry because we don't have a voice in the British Parliament. We chose Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, Roger Sherman, and Robert Livingston to create the Declaration of Independence. The Declaration of Independence is a document that says we are no longer under British rule. It also says that everyone has the right to life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness. There are 56 signature on the document and it was accepted on July 4.
