This story was inspired by the classic Charles Perrault tale, "The Sleeping Beauty in The Wood."
Sleeping Beauty is a world-renowned tale for its magical elements, of which I wanted to capture in my fractured version.

Once upon a time, in a beautiful kingdom, there lived a King and Queen.

They were sad because they did not have a baby to care for.

The good fairy of the kingdom heard the King and Queen's cries for a child. So she waved her wand, and POOF! The good fairy created a baby girl for the King and Queen.

The King and Queen named their baby Princess Olive. They thanked the good fairy for the child and threw a party.

Soon, the woods grew dark, and the evil fairy of the woods crashed the party.
The good fairy waved her wand and transported the King and Queen back to the safety of their castle, but the good fairy could not use her magic to move the baby princess.
The good fairy ran and hid behind a tree.

The evil fairy flicked her wand at Princess Olive and declared:
"I will cast a spell on the child! When the Princess is five years old she will Prick her finger on a dead Olive tree and she will sleep forever!"

The light of the woods returned and the Good fairy emerged from her hiding place to return the baby princess to her kingdom.
As she walked back to the kingdom, the good fairy cast a different spell on the child.

Princess Olive's curiosity grew along with her beauty.
At just five years old, she had already explored the whole castle.

One day, Princess Olive wandered into the kingdom village to go to the bakery and candy shoppe.

YEE OLDE BAKE SHOPPE

"Well greetings young princess! What can I do for you today?" Asked the store clerk.
Princess Olive smiled and said, "Hi Bettie! I came for a cupcake. I need something sweet to give me energy!"
"And why might you need some energy today?" Asked Bettie.
"I've explored the whole kingdom, so I am off to find new lands!" Said Princess Olive.
Bettie smiled and asked "Have you ever been seen the secret garden in the castle towers?"
Olive paused to think, then said, "Why no I have not! I will go there today!" She bought an ice cream cone, then left.
Princess Olive trekked back to the castle and climbed high into the towers. She came across a secret garden on top of the castle. In the middle of the garden was a dead tree.

Princess Olive walked towards the dead tree. It was sparkling and seemed magical.
She reached her hand out and touched a branch.
The branch pricked her finger and she fell down.
A palace guard saw Olive fall, and he called for help.
The princess fell asleep and was brought to the King and Queen.
The King and Queen decided to lock Olive in another castle far away where she would be safe and could sleep for eternity. The King and Queen thought that because the evil fairy's spell had come true, they would never be able to wake Olive.
