This is to my parents who always support me when I need it.

A long time ago, in the foggy, far-off, Fig Tree Forest, there was a cocky, cranky, cool Kookaburra. This Kookaburra, however, did not have the slightest sense of humour and would not know a joke if it fell into his lap, so, as a result, he did not know how to laugh. Then, one fine, foggy day, everything changed for the better (but a bit for the worse).

On that fine foggy day, the cocky, cranky, cool Kookaburra was out flying with his parents when he saw a large, tasty, slightly weird looking worm on the ground. So Kookaburra swooped down to get it, only to realise that it was sticky tree sap on the ground! So, the cocky, cranky, cool Kookaburra tried and tried to get the sap out of his beak. He rolled, he flapped, he clawed and he chewed to try to get the wretched sap out of his small beak. In his efforts, he forgot all about his parents. Eventually, (after 10 minutes), the cocky, cranky, cool Kookaburra managed to get the majority of sap out of his beak, so by the time he got flying again, his parents were long gone!

He searched this way and that way, back and forth, side to side until he was too tired to search anymore, and slept until morning. When the sun came up he started his search again. ‘If only I had some way to signal them,’ the cocky, cranky, cool Kookaburra thought to himself as he flew around aimlessly to find his parents. Then, his hopes shot up when he saw two shapes sitting on a branch, eating leaves. ‘Odd,’ he thought that his parents would eat gum leaves, but nevertheless, he flew down towards them. As he made his descent, he noticed the two shapes were connected and they turned into a Koala happily eating amongst the gum trees.

‘What brings you here child?’ Koala said softly as he began to yawn (for he was sleepy and tired). ‘I am here in search of my parents,’ the cocky, cranky, cool Kookaburra said sadly.
‘Well,’ began Koala, ‘I might be of assistance. But first, answer me this. If you were a father and realised you had lost your child, where would you go and what would you do?’ ‘I would start looking for them?’ questioned the cocky, cranky, cool Kookaburra. ‘But where?’ ‘Everywhere!’ yelled Kookaburra, more firmly this time. ‘No!’ yelled Koala back, as loud as he could, which was not as impressive as Kookaburra’s for he was sleepy and tired. ‘You would go to the spot you last saw him,’ lectured Koala.
‘Thank you Koala!’ Kookaburra praised as he thought back to that wretched sap.
