Is the formula for photosynthesis!

This is Sarah the Sunflower. She uses photosynthesis everyday to make sugar for herself and oxygen for us to breath. Photosynthesis happens inside what we call the chloroplast. She needs carbon dioxide, water and sunlight to make her food. When she is done drinking in all the sunlight, she makes sugar and oxygen, which is the stuff you breath!

Photosynthesis is called a light - dependent reaction. This means that if Sarah wants to make sugar and oxygen, she needs sunlight to do it. This light - dependent reaction happens inside the thylakoids, which are in the chloroplast and store what make the plant look green! Chlorophyll is what makes the plant green. The thylakoids are called the granum when they are all stacked up in the chloroplast.

The opposite of a light - dependent reaction is a light - independent reaction. A light - independent reaction is when a reaction like photosynthesis does not need sunlight to have something happen. A light - independent reaction happens inside the thylakoids, just like the light - dependent reaction!

This is Francis the Fox. He uses cellular respiration to make energy called ATP. Cellular respiration  happens inside and outside the mitochondria, which is the "powerhouse" of the cell. There are three stages to cellular respiration. First there is glycolysis, then there is the Kreb's Cycle, and lastly there is the Electron Transport Chain.

First, Francis does Glycolysis. This happens in the cytoplasm, which is outside the powerhouse. The job of Glycolysis is to break down the sugar that he has in his body so it can go through the next two processes easier. Glucose is broken down into what is called a pyruvate.
