Cold War- After World War ii, the United States and the Soviet Union were both very powerful. They fought a war of ideas between communism and capitalism called the Cold War.

Communism- The government says they are doing good by sharing everything equally and controlling everything
Communist- A person who believes/supports in communism.
Soviet Union- A group of Russians which were a communist-ruled union.
Winston Churchill- The Prime Minister of Great Britain, which means he was a very important man to the government. He’s best known for standing up to communist. Churchill didn’t believe in a Communist government.
Iron Curtain- The Iron Curtain is related to the cold war and the guard wall between the countries of the Soviet bloc, the Sphere of Influence of the Soviet Union and the rest of Europe. The idea of the iron curtain was made famous in a speech by Winston Churchill, on March 5, 1946 at a college in Missouri. He condemned the Soviet Union's policies in Europe. The speech was seen by the boss Joseph Stalin as a “War starter”, and that started the Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union. The communist countries behind the Iron Curtain were the Soviet Union, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, East Germany, Hungary, poland, Romania and Albania.
One of the most famous orations of the Cold War period, former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill condemns the Soviet Union's policies in Europe and declares, “From Stettin in the Baltic to Trieste in the Adriatic, an iron curtain has descended across the continent.”
The significance of Winston Churchill's "Iron Curtain" speech is that it announced the beginning of the Cold War. However, Churchill also used it as a platform to deliver his hope that the United States and Great Britain could work more closely together to police a post-war world.
Containment- Is the action of keeping something harmful under control or within limit. The system of containment was used by the United States during the cold war. The purpose of the spread of communism abroad by diplomatic, military and economic actions. The forming the basis of the United States during the early stages of the Cold War. There are many Events during Cold War when the United States used the containment system including the Korean war, the Vietnam war and the Cuban Missile Crisis.
The Marshall plan was an American initiative to aid Western Europe, in which the United States gave over $13 billion in economic support to help rebuild Western European economies after the end of World. President Truman signed the Economic Recovery Act of 1948. It became known as the Marshall Plan, named for Secretary of State George Marshall, who in 1947 proposed that the United States provide economic assistance to restore the economic infrastructure of postwar Europe.This left the following countries to participate in the plan: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and western Germany.
