"An unexciting truth may be eclipsed by a thrilling lie." - Aldous Huxley

CITY HALL AND BAIT SHOP

Tumbledweed was a quiet little town in Texas. It was located about 30 minutes from Houston. Nothing exciting ever happened here. But all that was about the change. There was an eclipse happening on Monday and the whole town was abuzz.

DO NOT LOOK INTO THE ECLIPSE!

Our science teacher, Mr. Copernicus, warned us not to look into the eclipse. He said that it could do serious damage to our eyes. I already had to wear contact lenses to help me see so the last thing I wanted to do was to do more harm to my eyes.

I had seen pictures of eclipses on the computer and they were pretty spectacular. When the eclipse was happening over Tumbleweed, I was fast asleep in my room. We had been given the day off and so I decided to take a nap. I got thirsty so I hopped out of bed to get a glass of water.

As I headed back to bed I noticed how quiet everything seemed. Everything was so still and so silent. All I could hear was the ticking of the clock. It was actually pretty creepy. I searched all over the house for my parents but I couldn't find them anywhere.

I know I should've stayed inside but my curiosity got the better of me. I unlocked the front door and started to walk down my street. It was still dark outside even though it was 2 o'clock in the afternoon. Not a soul was stirring in my neighbourhood. Oh wait! There's someone. Maybe I'll ask her what's going on.

When the woman turned around she hissed at me. That was no woman.....it was a vampire! Soon she was joined by more vampires. I was frozen solid with fear. I couldn't scream for help or even run away. "Edie! Over here! Hurry!" I knew that voice. It was Mr. Mancini from next door.

"What are those things Mr. Mancini?" "Vampires. This is what happens when you stare into the eclipse. Follow me. We need to get to the grocery store and fast!" "Grocery store?" "We need supplies." Petrified, I held Mr. Mancini's hand as we ran from the vampires.

"Why are we stocking up on so many cans of tomato sauce?" "You'll see. We're also going to need some garlic. A lot of garlic." "Eww, stinky!" In the distance I heard something fall from one of the shelves. "I don't think we're alone. Get your stake ready Edie. You may have to use it." "What?"
