Did you know that there are 4 seasons? What is a season, you might wonder?
A season is a division of the year marked by changes in weather, ecology, and amount of daylight.

We have seasons because the tilt of the earth's axis shifts our sun's light. The exact day a season begins changes, but Spring begins in March, Summer in June, Fall in September, and Winter in December.

Spring
When it is Spring in the Northern Hemisphere, it will be autumn in the Southern Hemisphere. In Spring, the earth begins to "wake up" as the sun moves closer and the earth gets warmer. Some people plant vegetable and flower gardens. Have you ever planted a garden?

Summer
In summer, especially in the South, temperatures rise. It is a hot time of year! The days are long and the nights are short. It is a time when people spend more time outside. Many people take vacations in the summer. Have you ever been on a vacation?

Autumn
In Autumn, the earth starts to cool, and the days get shorter and the nights get longer. The trees shed their leaves and farmers harvest or pick their crops. In November, we have a feast to celebrate the bounty of the harvest in remembrance of our forefathers. We call it, Thanksgiving, and many families come together to celebrate.

Winter
Winter is the coldest month of the year. Some places get a lot of snow but in the South, we get very little. Some places even have blizzards and cannot leave their houses for days! The reason it is so cold is the axis in our part of the earth is tilted away from the sun. In winter, people can do sports like snow skiing and ice skating.

Now you know a little more about seasons. Let's review.
1-Seasons change every three month.
2-We do different activities in different months because the weather is different.
3-We have seasons because the earth tilts on its axis and moves closer or farther away from the sun.
Something to think about: what season are you in now? Tell something about that season.
Words you may not know:
Axis -imaginary line through the earth on which it turns.
Southern Hemisphere-the southern half of earth.
Northern Hemisphere-the northern half of earth.
Bounty of the harvest-lots of fruit and vegetables.
Remembrance- in memory or in honor or someone or something.
Harvest-when farmers pick their crops.
Blizzard-a very bad snow storm where the wind is strong and you can't see where you are going.
