To Mr. Ginnerty,
Because you are the one grading it.

Once upon a time,
America had two groups that split up the people. They did not think the same about how the country should be led. These two groups were the Federalists and the Democratic-Republicans.

Democratic-Republicans
Federalists
The Federalists were not very strong anymore, so they disappeared after the war. This left the Democratic-Republicans all alone in America. This started the One Party System.

The Democratic-Republicans then started having problems. They broke up into two new parties: Democrats and National Republicans.

The Democrats liked Andrew Jackson and his views. This group wanted more states rights and less national government control.
Jackson did not like the National Bank, saying it was "selfish".

"It is to be regretted that the rich and powerful too often bend the acts of government to their selfish purposes.
(President Jackson's Veto Message Regarding the Bank of the United States)
Jackson later wrote a letter about what he did not agree with about the National Bank. He thought it was abusing the government's power, it did not agree with the ideas he followed, and it was not equal for everyone.

The other party, the National Republicans, liked John Quincy Adams. They believed in the American System, an economic plan that included a national bank, internal improvements, and protective tariffs.

There was quite a few things that these two groups disagreed on, but the arguments were silenced after the Election of 1828. It was Andrew Jackson vs. John Quincy Adams, and the Democrats won.

With Jackson in charge, he was letting the states have more power, until a problem with South Carolina. They did not like the protective tariffs, and John C. Calhoun wrote a letter saying they wanted to leave the union.

"Which power is abused by being converted into an instrument of rearing up the industry of one section of the country on the ruins of another..."
