My name’s Ryan Moore, but everyone just calls me Ry. I live in Atlanta, Georgia with my Grandma Ann, my younger sister Jordan, and my dad Joe. They always told us that our mom wasn't ready for the responsibility, so she just walked out. We don't know a whole lot about our mom. We only have one picture of our mom, and from that picture I guess you could say me and Jordan favor her very much so. My Grandma took care of us until I was about 8 years old, then I started to take care of Jordan and myself. My dad wasn't really around all that much when we’re growing up or even now that we’re older. My dad’s a lawyer at a huge law firm, he’s pretty much always in his office or on the phone. I've recently graduated form High School, and have applied to Juilliard, Juilliard is a school for the liberal arts, I applied for dance.

It’s around 6:30 am, and I couldn’t sleep. I noticed my cat Prince was looking out the window, I decided to take a picture. I joined Prince in what Grandma calls “Rain Watching”, it’s when you just sit back relax and watch the rain fall. The sun was trying to shine through but the sky was still cloudy and grey. The pitter patter the rain makes when it hits the window is relaxing. I glance across the room and noticed the only picture we have of our mom. Jordan really does favor our mom. Our mom was stunning, her curls were so big and springy, her beautiful brown eyes sparkled in the light, her perfect smooth skin. I wish she could've stayed. The only thing we know about her is her name which is Myah Moore.

Yesterday was “Bring Your Child to Work Day”, and of course my dad wanted me and Jordan to be there. Not to mention he wanted us to “dress up”, so I decided to put on black slack and a white floral blouse. Our dad’s office was pretty nice and there were plenty of pictures of me and Jordan. He had me taking calls and Jordan filing flies. He wanted to spend time with us so when our lunch breaks came up he took us out. When we’re with our dad it's like he's here but he's not here. He's always on his phone taking calls, having client dinners, and what not. Then when we would ask about mom he’d just give us the cold shoulder and pretends he didn't hear us. Especially when we would try and ask questions about our mom it would always be a “I’m busy Ryan” or “You know everything you need to know” so I just stopped asking.

Today I got my acceptance letter from Juilliard, everyone was happy for me. To honor this special occasion my dad took us all to “Kevin Rathbun Steak” it’s a beautiful restaurant. When you first walk in there’s two people that greet you and one of them walks you to your table. It's like you're entering a whole new world, they have this huge branch like lights hanging from the ceiling. The chefs come out dressed in all white with the great chef hat to greet you. We all ordered our meals and drinks and we talked. My dad did the answering calls for work thing so he had to step outside. I couldn’t help but notice this lady looking at me. She looked a little familiar, she had a nice pretty bun with bangs that fell over her face just perfectly. We made eye contact. Our meals came but dad had business to take care of, so we took our food to go.

Yesterday was strange. I felt like I knew the lady or at least seen her somewhere before. When she smiled at me it made me feel warm inside, kind of how you feel when you drink hot chocolate. Her eyes sparkled in the light and shined when she would make eye contact. My dad was having a client meet at his office and wanted me to pick up something for them to eat. I chose to go back to the restaurant. She was there and this time she gave me her name, Myah Moore. She was our mom. I told her I was doing a school project and I needed pictures of random people. She let me snap a picture of her.

When she told me her name I felt RAGE but I also felt happiness. I wanted to tell her who I was, but when she spoke to me I froze. It felt as though time stood still in that moment. I wanted to tell her the good news, I wanted to ask her why she left. I told everyone that I was cooking dinner tonight, that's when I was going to tell everyone. I thought I should cook everyone’s favorite dish. For Jordan I made baked pork chops with a side of scalloped potatoes, for dad I made creamy corn with cornbread, and for Grandma Ann I made her famous peach cobbler with ice tea. I even set the dining room table nice. When everyone sat I started the conversation.

Ryan- Okay so there’s something I need to tell everyone.
Jordan- What’s up big sis?
Joe- Yeah baby girl what’s the problem.
I looked at everyone and got nervous. You’d think my hands were soaking in water, that’s how sweaty they were. My granny looked at me like she knew exactly was I was going to say.
Grandma Ann- I think I know what this is about?
Ryan- You do Grandma?
Grandma Ann- Yeah sweetie. I seen her that day too.
Joe- Seen who?
Grandma Ann- Joe the girls are old enough you need to tell that about Myah.
Joe- Ryan is that what you wanted to talk to us about.
