There are four stages to becoming a butterfly. Let's explore each of the seasons.

In the spring a butterfly lays an egg on a leaf of a plant.

The butterfly breaks out of the egg in about a week in the shape of a small caterpillar.

Once the caterpillar hatches, they begin to eat and grow. Did you know that after the caterpillar eats the egg shell it came out of, it eats the very leaf it was laid on?

The caterpillar eats and grows, and eats and grows, and eats and grows some more; until one day it is full. The caterpillar is so full that it's ready for a long nap. So it turns itslef into a pupa also called a chrysalis to sleep in.

While the caterpillar sleeps, it undergoes a transformation, and when the time comes the caterpillar emerges out from the chrysalis as a beautiful butterfly!

The butterflies make their appearance all around us during Mid-spring through Summer. There is a host of butterflies flying through the air,landing on the flowers, and some even land on the people passing by.
