This book is dedicated to John Matthews, Frankie, and Gentry

Once upon a time, there lived a boy and girl with a spotted pup named Frankie.

Frankie loved his boy and girl and he loved their little country house where he could play outside. He especially loved sniffing and exploring on his own.

One day, Frankie was exploring on his own when he saw a squirrel. He loved squirrels very much and wanted to be friends with it. The squirrel was afraid of Frankie and ran away from him.

Frankie ran and sniffed and ran and sniffed, searching for the squirrel. "We can be friends!" he arffed into the woods.

Before he knew it, the sun set and it grew dark and cold outside. He looked around, but didn't recognize anything around him. "Where is the country house and the boy and girl?" he thought to himself.
He sniffed and wondered through the tall grass until he saw lights. He was not at the country house, he was in the city!

Frankie walked and sniffed all night as he went away from the city and tried to retrace his steps back to the country house.
His tummy growled and his short little legs were tired. "I miss my family," he said sadly.

The next morning, he found a dirt road. "This smells like home!" he thought! He felt excited and his ears perked happily.

When Frankie got to the end of the road, there was a house in the country, but it was not his house. Before he could continue his journey homeward, he was surprised to see a bushy tailed squirrel run across the yard.
Forgetting how tired and hungry he was, Frankie ran after it.

This time, Frankie followed the squirrel all the way to his home in a tree by the big house. There was a man outside who was excited to see Frankie.

The man put Frankie in his car and they drove through town. As they bounced down the cobblestone road, Frankie sniffed the air." It smells like home!" he arrrrfed excitedly.
"Your family has missed you," the man said, while reaching over to pet Frankie's head.

The man stopped at Frankie's house and the boy and girl came running out to greet them.
"Did you go on adventure?" the boy asked the pup.
"We missed you." said the girl. "Thank you for returning our hound." the girl Thanked the man.
