“Guns make small men feel big.” - Oliver Gaspiritz

My parents warned me that Haskell was a bad influence. Ever since I started hanging out with him I've gotten in trouble every day. It would probably be for the best if I didn't talk to him anymore but I did like being a little rebellious.

"What do you feel like doing today Haskell?" "Why don't we try out your Dad's laser gun. I've always wanted to fire one." "No. Laser guns are dangerous especially for Martians our age." "C'mon don't be a space chicken." "Oh, alright."

After shooting a few pop cans, I decided it was time to return the laser gun. "Where are you going? We're just starting to have fun." "I don't want my Dad to find out his laser gun is missing." "One more shot. How about you aim for that Solar Phoenix. You don't have to hit him. Just scare him a little."

"Hey man, nice shot! You hit him." "Oh no! I think he's dead. I'm so sorry Solar Phoenix. I'm going to put the laser gun away now. I'll see you later." I felt sick to stomach after what I did. I hope my Dad never finds out about this.

"What's the matter Mervin, you've barely touched your space soup? Are you not feeling well?" "No, I'm fine." "Then why are starting to cry?" I couldn't keep in any longer. "Mom, Dad, I did something very bad today."

My Dad yelled at me and I was sent to my room. I didn't even get to have any space dessert. I deserved it though. I should have never taken his laser gun. And that poor Solar Phoenix. What I did was so cruel. I don't like laser guns and I never want to see one again.

Later that evening I snuck out of the house to check on the Solar Phoenix. I took my hover board to the tree where I had shot the poor creature but he was gone. All that remained was a pile of ashes and some smoke. Maybe he was okay after all. Well, better get home before my parents find out I'm gone.

I felt a little relieved knowing that the Solar Phoenix might be alright. I was still in big trouble and had to spend the rest of the day in my house. My Mom gave me a long list of chores when I woke up. I deserved my punishment and had learned my lesson. End of story? Not even close.
