Once upon a time, in a faraway kingdom, there was born a prince named Oliver.
After Oliver was born, he would not stop crying. He cried all day and night and nothing the king or queen did would make him stop. So, one night they took him into the Wicked Woods to the witch.

When they got to the witch’s house, the king and queen begged her to make Oliver stop crying. The witch cast a spell on Oliver so that when the king and queen told Oliver to stop crying, he would right away.

The king and queen were so grateful to the witch for helping them with their son. However, what they didn’t know was the witch was evil, and she didn’t just put a spell on Oliver, she cursed him. She cursed him to obey every command that people give him.

As Oliver grew older, his parents thought he was the best child on earth. He never cried, always went to bed on time, and did all of his school work. They loved the witch for the spell she placed on him!

But, Oliver was not so happy because the kids at school discovered they could command Oliver to do things. One time, they told Oliver to pull on Lucy’s pigtails. Although he didn’t want to, he had to because of the spell from the witch.

When he pulled her hair, Lucy cried so loud that the teacher heard and asked who made her cry. All of Oliver’s friends pointed at him and said that he did it. Oliver tried to tell the teacher that he didn’t want to hurt Lucy, but it didn’t matter.

Another day, Oliver’s friends told him to sneak into the cupboard at school and steal the snacks for snack time. Even though he didn’t want to, Oliver went and stole the snacks and brought them to his classmates. They ate all of them!
When the teacher found out, she asked the class who stole the snacks. Again, all the kids pointed at Oliver and the teacher said that Oliver’s parents were going to have to meet with her. He was in big trouble.

Oliver told his parents about the things he had done, like stealing the snacks and hurting Lucy. He cried and said that he didn’t ever want to do those bad things, but he couldn’t help it because he just had to.

When the king and queen met with the teacher, they could not believe that they’re son was behaving so poorly! He was so well-behaved at home and never disobeyed his parents.

After hearing this, the king and queen looked at each other, full of sadness and guilt. They knew why their son was so troubled. Somehow, the spell that had made him such a good son at home also made it so people could tell him to do bad things.
They were so upset because there was nothing they could do for Oliver. But, he believed that if he could find the witch and reverse the spell, that he would be cured and stop having to do bad things to others.

One night, after his parents went to sleep, Oliver decided that he must find this witch that his parents took him to years ago. He knew that she lived in the Wicked Woods. So, Oliver packed some food, put on his coat, and left without telling the king and queen. He chose not to tell them because he knew they could tell him not to go, and he would have to listen.

As Oliver traveled alone in the Wicked Woods, he came upon a bridge. When he went to cross, a terrible looking creature popped out, stopping him.
The creature was mean, and did not want Oliver to cross the bridge. So, he told Oliver he needed to turn around and go back home.

Because of the curse, Oliver listened to the creature and began to turn around. As he was turning, Oliver saw a rope swing. He could use this to cross the bridge and avoid the creature!
Oliver ran and grabbed the swing and went right over the creature’s head to the other side. Then, he continued on.
