CHAPTER 8.1

George Washington picked the best possible people for the job of cabinet. He picked Alexander Hamilton for Secretary of Treasury,

Thomas Jefferson for State/Federal Affairs, Henry Knox for Secretary of War, and Edmund Randolph for Attorney General. The new U. S. was $52 million in debt to bonds. Speculators take advantage

States debts and Federal debts. Hamilton wants the Federal gov, to pay all debts. The Southern States agree with the placement of new capital 

in the South. The Whiskey Tax was established which caused the Whiskey Rebellion. The Whiskey Rebellion established government right to tax and insures domestic tranquility.  

CHAPTER 8.2

Hamilton financial plan stirs up issues. Framers and Washington did not expect political parties. All Leaders disliked factions. (political groups). Republicans took the name from Democratic Republican Societies. Federalist took name from constitution developers. Republicans argued that the federal government was too strong. Jefferson led Republicans, who favored France. Federalists led by Hamilton, who favored England.

Federalist favored national Bank and national tariff. Washington sets another precedent (2 terms). Adams wins majority vote and becomes president (Federalist). Jefferson becomes vice president after finishing 2nd (Republican). And yes there were two parties in the same office!! HOW!!!! WHAT IS LIFE!?!?!?! WHAT THE HECK???? WERE DOOMED! OR are we...

CHAPTER 8.3

As a result of the Treaty of Paris the american revolution, the U. S. won over an entirety of land.

The french revolution began in 1789. The french won!

1796 Washington retired into public law! He retired went to Westmore Land Virginia.

CHAPTER 8.4

The french were angered by U. S. neutrality in the war between France and Britain. The Jay treaty only increased tensions with France. In 1797, Adams sent a new three-person mission to France. The agents of the french government demanded that the U.S. pay a bribe of 250,000 dollars. The agents were called X, Y, and Z. The incident became known as the XYZ affair. The XYZ affair caused on outbreak of war fever in the U. S. The states had different rights.
