Chapter 1 - Run!
Ona and her little sister Kaya grew up in a peaceful meadow with their older brother Farren, their mother Shaya, and their father Jore. They all lived in a cozy little burrow that their father made for them when they moved into the meadow, which was called Pixie meadow. Ona lived happily, passing the days frolicking about and spending time with her family. They were perfectly content and all was right with the world until one fateful day.
‘Wisps of sunlight floated through the trees lighting the little picnic. A group of bunnies chatted happily as they feasted on the many delicacies before them. Suddenly a dazzling butterfly circled the group calling out “Ona!! Ona!!”
Kaya pounced on her slumbering sister, startling her awake. Ona leaped in the air like a spring before collecting herself and giving her sister an annoyed look.
“ What was that for!?” Ona demanded “ I was in the middle of an especially pleasant dream!”
“ It’s Willow day today!!” Kaya squealed joyously “I was so excited I couldn’t wait for you to wake up! I’m sorry about jumping on you.”
As soon as she realized what Kaya meant, her anger was washed away with eager anticipation as they bounded around their “room” together. Willow day was always filled with fun! It was the day they celebrated moving here and building their burrow under an old Willow tree. Ona’s mind was flooded with ideas of what the exciting things they would do together.
She quickly groomed herself and Kaya before hopping through the tunnels into the main section of their burrow. Her sister followed right behind her. The welcoming smell of berry pudding greeting them as they made their way into the Kitchen hollow. When they entered, Ona noticed Shaya pouring out the creamy berry pudding into bowls.
“ Hey girls, you got up right on time.” Shaya greeted them, waving them over “We are having berry pudding for breakfast. Your dad and brother are outside. Go call them in and we’ll eat together.”
“Okay Mom, Be right back.” They chorused before hurrying off.
The sun reflected on the dew, causing them to look like pearls scattered across the meadow. Suddenly the ground rumbled and the pair stopped. They heard a loud crash in the distance. Ona lifted her ears to listen and sniffed the air for danger. After a while , Ona nudged her sister on and the continued towards the stream.
“Ona, what was that?” Kaya asked, a little frightened.
“It’s okay Kaya, it’s over now.” Ona answered, trying to console her sister “ Look! I see Jore and Farren, Come on.”
And with that they bounded away. By the time they met up with Jore and Farren, another quake had happened and little Kaya was out of breath.
“ Are you both okay?” Jore asked, a little worried.
“ It’s okay dad, we’re fine.” Kaya answered slowly “ Shaya sent us to get you for breakfast.”
“Let’s go together.” Farren suggested
Everyone agreed and began bounding towards home. Ona made sure Kaya was close and every once in awhile they would exchange trusting glances.
