I would like to dedicate this page to Mrs. Brazelton and Mr. Shorer on being the best biology team I could have asked for!

Plants make their own food. This process is called photosynthesis. Plants need chlorophyll to make food. They need light from the sun. They also need water. Lastly, plants need a gas from the air.
Plants Make Food
Green plants are autotrophs, or producers. They use light energy from the sun to make food. Sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide are absorbed by the plant. First, the sun splits the water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen molecules. Next, the hydrogen atoms merge with carbon dioxide. This merge produces glucose. Finally, the waste product, oxygen, is released into the air.
Do Plants Recycle?
Recycling is the process of taking waste products and turning them into something that can be reused. Believe it or not, plants recycle, too. Plants use carbon dioxide, the waste product that people and animals exhale. They use this gas and other ingredients to make food for themselves. This process is called photosynthesis. This process has a waste product called oxygen. When plants photosynthesize, they release oxygen into the air.
What Do Plants Eat?
You eat to get energy. Plants live and grow, too. Plants can make their own food. They use light from the sun. They use water. They use a gas from the air call carbon dioxide. Plants have a special chemical called chlorophyll. Chlorophyll can change light from the sun into chemical energy. Sugar is made by the plant. This sugar is food for the plant. The plant uses most of the sugar it makes to live and grow. Some of this food is stored in the plant. Animals and people can eat plants to get the stored food
Thank a Plant
Your body needs oxygen to survive. Oxygen comes from plants. Plants use a process known as photosynthesis to produce oxygen for our planet. A chemical reaction takes place to create glucose and releases oxygen. The glucose is food for the plant. The oxygen is needed by people and animals. After breathing in that oxygen-rich air, we exhale carbon dioxide - the same carbon dioxide that plants need to make their food. Say thank you to a plant!
