Once upon a time there was a little girl who lived in the woods. Her name was Buttercup. Every day at noon, she would go down by the stream and have her lunch.
One day, while she was eating her lunch, something rustled the leaves behind her. She was curious to know what had caused the sound, so she put her lunch in her basket and tiptoed towards the bushes.

She looked behind the shrubs and saw a little bunny. It squeaked in agony for it had broken one of its limbs. Buttercup could see that it was hurt because it would limp instead of hop.
The little girl picked up the feeble creature and took it to her cottage. She had forgotten all about her lunch basket that she had left in her excitement of finding a rabbit. Buttercup nursed the rabbit as soon as she got home.

Suddenly, the girl heard a harsh voice shout " Who dares care for those that I harm?!" Buttercup grabbed the little bunny and huddled up under the bed. "Who is this horrible creature?" Buttercup whispered to the rabbit. "He resembles a fox but he has extra long ears and a very long tail. He makes potions to harm others." answered the frightened rabbit. Buttercup pulled up the bedskirt so she could see out the window. How did he know I live here? She wondered. Then she remembered her lunch basket she had left. "The fox must have picked up the scent and followed it
to my cottage." she thought. The angry fox opened a bottle and spilled the contents on Buttercup's house. "Oh no, he is going to ruin your house!" peeped the bunny. In two seconds, the cottage fell to bits. The fox caught sight of the girl under the bed. Buttercup tried to get out from under the bed, but she did it in such a hurry that she bumped her head extremely hard on the way out, and so she fell unconscious. The foxlike creature gleefully dragged the girl and the bunny to his den.
Buttercup awakened to the frigid temperature of the creature's den. She was tied to a pole attached to the wall. "Here is your dinner." The fox said, gruffly, shoving a small plate with two, tiny morsels of meat into her hand. The little girl watched the evil creature gulp down a substantial amount of food greedily, making her feel so hungry. "How mean of him to give me so little food while I watch him eat all that." she grumbled to herself. "Ooh, i've eaten to much!" roared the evil thing. He waddled to his bed and he soon fell asleep.

The next morning, the fox like creature had forced Buttercup to become his servant. He always had his eyes on her, and he would bolt the door and take the key when he would leave, so this made it hard for her to run away.
One day, while the evil fox was taking his afternoon nap, Buttercup summoned her woodland friend for a formal meeting on what to do about the terrible fox. They held the meeting near a colony of mushrooms "During the night, you could make a fire and throw the fox in."
suggested a hummingbird. " But that would start a wild fire."answered Buttercup. " I know! Buttercup, you can mix some of that ruffian's potions, and then deposit it in his food!" squeaked a rabbit excitedly. "That is a good idea!"Buttercup happily agreed.
So that day, when the fox went out to do some evil, Buttercup mixed up all sorts of fascinating potions and poured them into the creature's dinner.
