Where are peanuts from?

Hi! I'm Penelope! Penelope the Peanut to be exact. I'm here to tell you all about my journey from the fields, to your kitchen! And let me tell you, its quite interesting. Many of you probably know my sidekick, Mr. Peanut, but today i'm going to be giving you the tour of the peanut cycle.

I started off in a little peanut field in Virginia. Although, some peanuts are grown in other places, like Texas, or even Africa! Me, along wiht millions of other little peanuts, we grow for about 4-5 months! From each peanut plant, there can be 25-50 peanuts!! THAT'S A LOT!!

After our 4-5 months of developing, we get harvested. Which means, farmers will get all of the little peanuts from the crops! This will normally happen in fall when our leaves are beginning to yellow! The harvesting process takes quite a while, it can take up to 150 days!

After being harvested, we go into this huge machine. This machine will allow us to dry. We then get taken to the Planters factory in Virginia! This factory is where all the peanuts go to get ready for the stores!

In the factory, we go on conveyor belts, we then get packaged in our fancy cans. We have our giant logo on the can to let everyone know where we came from, and what factory we were at.

We then get sent in trucks, right before we all get loaded onto the trains! CHOO CHOO! These trains will deliver us straight to Burlington and many other cities so that we can be put on shelves and get bought. We get transported to places like Walmart! We get put into GIANT semis with the Walmart logo on them!

These semis take us to the Walmart store. Workers and employees will unpack us, and place us on the shelves.

We stay on the Walmart shelves until we expire, or someone has bought us. Which, Planters peanuts tend to be bought very frequently! We see adults, and kids reach up and grab our cool blue cans off the shelf!

Once all the current peanut cans have been sold, it is very important that our peanuts in the factory are on a schedule so that the store will never run out!
