To all music teachers

Welcome to our neighborhood! My name is Echo and today we are going to explore the different houses and learn about the different types of instruments in the band.

Hi Dan!
Hi Echo!

The first stop on our adventure is at the Brass family's home. This family is made up of five instruments. There is the trumpet, trombone, euphonium, tuba, and french horn. This is my friend Dan, he's a trumpet player which is the highest sounding brass instrument in the band. The trumpet is made of brass and has 3 buttons to make different notes. Now Dan is going to introduce us to the rest of his family.

Does that mean french fries aren't french either?
Dan's mom is a french horn player. Don't let the name fool you, the instrument does not come from France! The french horn is one of the most versatile sounding instruments in the band because it can play high and low. The french horn is made of brass and has 4 buttons to change the sound of the notes.

Wow! The tuba is taller than Dan and I combined!
Dan's dad plays the tuba. The tuba is the lowest sounding instrument in the band. The tuba is also made of brass and has 3-4 buttons to make different notes.

I don't think my arms could stretch far enough to play trombone.
Dan's sister is a trombone player. This instrument is similar to the tuba because it can play low. However, instead of pressing buttons to change notes, the trombone moves their slide in and out to make different sounds.

That looks like a baby tuba!

Dan's brother is a euphonium player. This instrument looks a lot like the tuba, and sounds similar too. The euphonium is a low sounding brass instrument but cannot play as low as the tuba can. The euphonium is made of brass and also had 3-4 buttons to change the notes like the tuba does.

Thank you for the tour, Dan! The brass family is always a fun group.
See ya later, Echo!
The brass family was so much fun to learn about. Let's see who else is home today!

Hi Susie!
Hi Echo!

Our next stop is the Woodwind family! This family consists of a flute, clarinet, saxophone, bassoon and oboe player. These instruments are not usually as loud as the Brass family can be but sometimes their music has a lot of fast notes! This is my friend Susie, she plays the clarinet. The instrument is made out of a special type of wood, and so is the reed that goes on her mouthpiece.

That looks like a magic wand!
Susie's mom plays the flute. The flute is a very high sounding instrument that is made out of silver or brass with sixteen different openings to make different notes.

23 buttons? I only have 10 fingers!
Susie's dad plays the saxophone, which is another instrument made out of brass with 23 buttons to press to make different notes. The saxophone is one of the newer instruments to be created.

The more the merrier when it comes to reeds!
