I dedicate this book to Mackenzie Horton.

There was a family that was made up of all girls besides the father, but he was out serving as a chaplain in the war between the states. It was four girls and their mother. They didn't have much money, so they didn't have as much things as any other teenager.
Since they didn't have much money, they couldn't have a Christmas. Each of the girls get one dollar to spend on themselves. They each wanted to get something they really wanted. But, they seen that their mother didn't have things in good condition, so they all decided to use their money for their mother.
The next morning after they got their mother their gifts, they sat at the breakfast table with them. They were all excited to give Mrs. March her presents. But when she came in, they hid the basket. As they were about to eat, she told them that there was a small family out in a small shed in the cold with nothing to eat and the mother was ill. She asked them if they would give up their breakfast just this one time. Surprisingly, they all gladly have up their favorite breakfast.
Mrs. March told the March girls that she would make up for the breakfast at dinner. So when dinner came, they had a really nice candle light dinner. It was brought over by the rich people next door.
The Laurence boy was one that lived over in the big house. They wanted to get to know the boy but he was too shy. They lost their cat once and he brought it back to them. He needed fun and friends. He never done anything with any friends.
A couple days later, two of the sisters got an invitation to a New Year's Eve dance. They both were excited about the event and wondered what they was going to wear. They each had one nice dress for events but Jo's dress had a burn spot in the back. But she decided to wear it anyways.
