“To my family, community, and home town-Parkland, Florida.
May we all find comfort in this heart warming story.”

The Day I Was Picked
I started off small, as every seedling should.
I started off small as a seed in the ground would.

I lay here in the ground, wondering what I will see.
I think and ponder about what I will be.

Will I live in a vase, a square glass, or in a center piece?
The last thing I wanted was to be knitted in a fleece.

Will I be lengthy and free like a kite in the sky?
Or will I shrivel up and fall over to my side?

The sun gives me warmth.
The rain quenches my thirst.
i am patiently waiting for my petals to burst.

As I began to sprout, growing a little stem,
I knew what I wanted...
I wanted to be with them.

Them being the humans! The humans you see!
I want to be beautiful,
in the hands of the people.
this was my only plea.

Some days I wilt, some days I fall
But I pick myself up,
knowing my worth above it all.

Dad! Mom! Look at me grow!
The time has come to let you both go.

I’m taller than ever,
aiming high towards the sky,
“I’m ready, I’m ready!” I shout with a cry.

The day was here, the day that I had dreamt,
I knew exactly how much I meant.

February fourteenth,
the day of love.
This day is my favorite, and so are doves.

I was picked! Chosen! Plucked at last!
My home was now a place of the past.

As I reached Stoneman Douglas, my new location,
this place was far from a vacation.
