For each child who feels like it's a bad thing to be different, so they can learn how truly special and important they actually are

One Monday morning Mrs. Lucy introduced a new student to the class. This student was different than all the other students though. This student was a kitten, not a puppy like the rest of Mrs. Lucy’s class.

“Class I want all of you to be nice to our new student and make him feel welcome in our classroom.” Mrs. Lucy said.

The new kitten was nervous and sat very quiet in his seat in the front of the class. Rex and his friends decided to introduce themselves to the new student.
“Hey, fluffball what are you doing here? You’re so weird you don’t even look like the rest of us.” Rex said meanly.
“Hi, I’m Simon. I know I look different, but I'm just here to learn like everyone else.” Simon said politely.

Mrs. Lucy said it was time for lunch, so all the students started to line up. Rex and his friends rushed to the front of the line where Simon was at.
“Move out of the way Simon. Only puppies are allowed in the front of the lunch line.” Rex said while his friends growled at Simon.
“I’m sorry Rex, but I was here first.” Simon explained.
“I don’t care! Move it you little Kitten!” Rex yelled loudly.
Mrs. Lucy had overheard the boys arguing, so she sent all of them to the back of the line.
“Look what you’ve done now you dummy! You got us sent to the back of the line, you better watch out during recess.” Rex threatened.

Simon ate his lunch quietly by himself. He worried about what Rex and his friends had planned to do to him during recess. He thought about telling Mrs. Lucy, but decided that would only make the bullies more mad at him. While Simon was walking into the classroom from lunch he was tripped by Rex. He tried to hold back tears while Rex and his friends laughed at him.
“Hey look guys! I guess cats don’t always land on their feet!” Rex yelled.
“Ha! I guess they don’t!” said another one of Rex’s friends.

As the students got ready to line up for recess Simon made sure to go straight to the back of the line so Rex and his friends wouldn't get mad at him again. Once Mrs. Lucy told the students they could play Simon made a dash for the big tree in the middle of the playground. He knew if he could stay in the tree then he would be safe from Rex, because everyone knows that puppies can’t climb trees. As Simon was sitting in the big tree a frisbee landed next to him.
“Hey feline give us our frisbee back!” Rex yelled up to Simon.
“I didn’t take it, it just landed up here next to me.” Simon explained.
“You just made that up! Now throw it down so we can get back to our game!” Rex yelled loudly.
“I did not! I’m telling the truth! But here is your frisbee.” Simon took the frisbee in his mouth and tossed it down to Rex and his friends.
