All of the people on the earth are very different, so all the families on earth are different too. My family looks and dresses differently than our neighbors, but we are still great neighbors. Me and my brother we like to play with our neighbor’s kids, and we have become best of friends. We like the same video games, we all like to play soccer better than football, and we like the same food. Our parents often make BBQ together.

Another one of my best friends is from India, and his name is Singh (which means lion) which is kind of cool. His family is Sikh and they have some great traditions and dress like ancient warriors. I really like hanging out with Singh. One day I went over to his house for dinner and their food was really spicy. Singh´s mom laughed and gave me something that was not too spicy, and it was great. I learned that when you don´t understand something about another culture, you just have to ask politely and people will explain and help. 

I also have another friend who is from China. His family has a lot of different traditions. Their house is very different from ours, and they have dragons all over the place. I really like the dragons and all other Chinese things that they have at home. Sometimes I think that their house is from another planet, or like an ancient spaceship from the cartoons. But apart from that, they are very much like everyone else I know, and May-May is one my best friends. 

Being different is great because if my other friends were not different I would have never learned about Jazz music which I really love (but never heard it from my parents), the Sikh culture, how in China the dragon is like really cool, and that in China the dragon does not burn villages and kidnaps princesses, but helps people. If you try to learn about other people and their culture, you do get to learn a lot of interesting stuff. Also if you are a boy and you hang out with girls, it is great and you can get your GI Joe and her Barbie to go on an adventure together. The important thing about all families is that moms and dads love each other, and that they love their kids.

So, having two dads or two moms is also great, and it is really not that different from having a mom and a dad. Knowing people that have two dads or two moms is also a great way to learn about people who are different. My cousin Jenny has two dads, Greg and Nick, and we all love to spend holidays together. Even though they live kind of far away my dad takes us over to them once or twice every week, and we spend Christmas together which is our favorite time of the year. Jenny’s dads are also two of the funniest guys that I have ever met and they are really fun to play with.

Jenny calls both of her parents dad and she says that it is really cool, and I think so too. So, one day Nick and Greg were having an argument over which one of them is more girly. Greg called Nick a hysterical woman, so I had to ask Jenny what that means. She explained to me that they were two boyfriends instead of a girlfriend and boyfriend. They often behaved like girls or call each other “the” woman, and sometimes it can get really funny, especially when they are angry at one another. She also said that when they are angry they both behave like girls, but that they rarely fight for real.
