This is the IDEA Team.  They work together to enforce the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act or IDEA for short.

The IDEA law was enacted to protect students with disabilities from being denied public education. Students with disabilities are guaranteed free public education that is tailored to fit their individual needs.

Each member of the IDEA Team fights to ensure justice for all individuals with disabilities.

My name is Zero Rejection or just Zero for short.

My job is to fight to make sure that all children have the right to a free, public education this includes children with disabilities and communicable diseases.  

Evil villain!  You can't keep students out of school.

I'm Captain FAPE. My full name is Free and Appropriate Public Education. Whew! That's a lot to say so my friends just call me Captain FAPE for short. Based on my name can you guess what I do? Let's look at each part of my name and see if you can figure it out.

The first part of my name is Free.  I ensure that all students with disabilities receive a free education.  This means that parents can not be charged for any services that their child with disabilities may need to receive an education.  This includes any services the child may need to receive outside of the school.

 The school district is required to pay for the services as well as any transportation the child may need  to and from these services.

The next part of my name is Appropriate.  This means that students with disabilities will receive special designed instruction to meet their learning needs.  They will also receive supplementary aids and service to ensure that they receive the best education they can possibly receive.

The last two parts, Public Education, go together.  This means that any child with a disability is allowed to attend a public school in their district.

What's that you say?  I look like I'm in the wrong place?  Well funny you should mention it.  My name is all about location.  So let's have a look at what I do.

Students with disabilities MUST be educated in the setting that is most like that of their peers of the same age.

I fight to ensure that schools are supporting their students with disabilities by providing a successful learning environment for all students with disabilities.
