Africa had no way to go from the Cape to Egypt. How could they go in deserts, over mountains, beside Victoria Falls, and into grasslands full of animals? The answer is: the Blue Train.

Make a train locomotive using shapes. Name the shapes you used. 

Way #1:  Students will be provided a cup with shape manipulatives. Put the six squares into an array with two rows. Then, place the hexagon in front of them. Put three triangles above the hexagon, up, down, up. (Do this on the document camera.) Have students work in group to name all of the shapes. 

Way #2 Have students trace a large rectangle pattern. Place a large circle in front of it, trace. Put a Pentagon pattern on top of the large circle, trace. Lastly, give one small circle pattern to make 4 wheels. Have students work in groups and possible do on chart paper, color.

Russia had a problem. They could not move goods across the country in Winter. Horse drawn sledges were the only way. How could they go 5,000 miles to take important items to people? The solution is: The Trans Siberian Railway.

Most of the billion people in India do not have a car. How will they get to the city? They started making railways first in India. This helps 11 million people get to work each day. Also, many people work at the railway in India.
