This book is for Mrs. Koerber's English 3 class

It was Mustafa’s first day of 5th grade. When his alarm went off at 6:30 he jumped out of bed. He loved going to school and learning and couldn’t wait to start his first day back. He quickly put on the outfit he had picked out the night before. After he got dressed he ate a bowl of cereal for breakfast, brushed his teeth, and hugged his mom goodbye before he hopped on the schoolbus.

When he got on the bus he scanned for an empty seat. He saw his friend Riley and decided to sit with him. Right as Mustafa reached Riley’s seat and was about to sit down, Riley moved his book bag where Mustafa was about to sit. Mustafa was confused, but before he could ask Riley to move his book bag Riley said, “You can’t sit beside me.” Mustafa didn’t understand why his friend didn’t want him to sit beside him, but he knew he needed to find a seat fast.

He saw an empty seat beside a kid he didn’t recognize and decided to try and sit there. When he got over there he asked, “Can I sit here please?” The kid on the seat said, “Yeah that's fine.” and Mustafa sat down. "I'm Jackson", said the kid. "My names Mustafa." They did not talk to each other for the rest of ride, but instead Mustafa spent the whole ride wondering why Riley wouldn’t let him sit beside him.
When the bus arrived to school Mustafa rushed off to get to class. He knew that him and Riley had the same teacher so Mustafa tried to walk to class with him. Riley ignored Mustafa the whole time they were walking together. Everytime Mustafa would try to talk to him Riley would not respond. Mustafa was confused why his friend was acting like this.

When they got to their classroom Mustafa saw that his teacher had assigned seats, and him and Riley were not beside each other. He was slightly upset, but with the way Riley had been acting towards him all day he thought maybe he needed to give him a break. He thought maybe Riley just didn't have a good morning, but that maybe at lunch time he would have a better day.

Later that day at lunch Mustafa saw an empty seat beside Riley. Mustafa hadn't tried to talk to him since the morning so he decided that he would try to sit beside him. When he got over there Riley put his lunch box where Mustafa was planning on sitting. Mustafa was confused and frustrated by Riley's actions throughout the whole day, but finally decided to ask Riley why he was acting like this.
