Dedicated to my mom, Sandra Lopez, for teaching me to dream as big as ever wanted.

Mia and Miguel are sister and brother who love spending time together. One thing they love more than being together are elephants!

Last summer they went on elephant safari's through Asia and Africa. While they were there, they noticed some differences and similarities in both types of elephants from each continent.

Mia noticed that all elephants use their trunks to help them in some way. She noticed how the elephants use them to pick up food, inhale water, breath and make loud noises.

They say hi by getting close and holding trunks which is super cute! However, her favorite thing to see was how they sprayed the water up to the sky and splashed themselves!

Mia also loved how the mommy and baby elephants were always together. Baby elephants are known as a 'calf' and the mommy is called a 'cow'.
The cows usually stay as a family. These female elephant families take care of one another at all times.

She learned that mommy elephants are the ones who take care of the family herd. The one who leads the herd is called the matriarch who is a female elephant. Go girl power!

The trunk of these elephants also serves as a personal snorkel! They are able to swim in deep waters while not having to hold their breath by poking out their trunk for air.

Not only can they swim in deep water, but they can even smell the water! They can smell the water from very far distances which proves that the trunk is a very helpful tool for an elephant.

Miguel focused on their size. At both safaris each guide said they were the biggest mammals on land which really amazed Miguel.

He thought it was super cool how the African elephants have ears like the shape of Africa! He also noticed how Asian elephants are the ones with the smaller droopy ears.
