A beneficiary is a person that receives financial support in paying for health care services. The financial support comes from a concept called insurance

CHIP stands for Children's Health Insurance Program. It is a program that helps children get the health care services they need.

Determinants of Health are parts of life that affect your health. The four major parts of life are environment, behavior and lifestyle, hereditary, and medical care
is for E-Health

E-Health is all types of electronic health that is done through the internet. It has allowed patients to become more involved in their own health care.

The FDA stands for the Food and Drug Administration. It tests certain drugs and foods to make sure they are safe for us to eat/use. Not all foods and drugs available to us are tested.

is for Gatekeeping

Gatekeeping is a unique word, but it simply means that a patient can not see a specialist unless a doctor refers it. This is to make sure patients don't do any treatments they don't need and save money.

is for Hospital

Hospitals have many different categories, and it is a place that main focus is to provide service for medical conditions. There are hospitals owned by the government and hospitals owned by private companies.
LV Fact: There are 20 hospitals in the Las Vegas Valley.
is for Insurance

Insurance makes it easier for people to pay for treatments, prescriptions, hospitalization, surgeries, and other services of health care. The beneficiary discussed earlier is the person that is insured and uses the insurance.
LV Fact: In 2014, 87% of the population was covered by health insurance.

A medical journal is a scientific journal that teaches doctors and students medical information.
is for Knives


Surgeons use types of knives and other tools while they perform surgery. Surgeons are a special type of doctor that qualifies to perform surgery.
is for Lifestyle

Lifestyle is one of the determinants of health talked about earlier, and it is how you live you're life. Examples are diet, exercise routine, and choices you make.
is for Medicare and Medicaid

Medicare provides health care coverage to people 65 years old or older. Medicaid provides health care coverage to people who make a low amount of money.


is for Nurses

Nurses assist doctors in hospitals, but also work in many other health care related places. They give great care to sick, injured, and elderly people. The U.S and Nevada in particular needs more nurses.
LV Fact: Nevada ranks 49/50 in the amount of nurses available for each resident.

OSHA stands for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. They try very hard to make sure people work in safe and healthy environments.
is for Physicians


LV Fact: The state of Nevada has about 200 physicians for every 100,000 residents.
The word physician refers to people who are able to practice medicine. A doctor is a physician.
is for Quality of Care

Quality of care is how good of care a patient receives. The care is good when it hits the health goals or needs of the patient. Medical technology should focus on high quality of care.

Rehabilitation is the healing of a sick or addicted person and having them become back to normal. Las Vegas has many alcohol or drug addicts that need to go through rehabilitation to become normal again.
LV Fact: There are over 30 rehabilitation programs for alcohol and drug addicts in Las Vegas
