Dedicated to Dr. Zipke's 12:30 Class!

Harper woke up early Tuesday morning, she jumped out of bed with very little warning!
Oh what a day! It was her 1/2 birthday!

She was officially 6 and 1/2!
She suddenly bursted out in one big laugh!

She knew her family must have planned something big!
Maybe they even got her a new pet pig!

She could hear her whole family laughing and talking
She ran down the stairs, she was definitely not walking!

She was so exited she dashed down the hall!
She turned the corner and almost ran into the wall!

But when she sat down for breakfast her family did not say a thing!
They only said “good morning!” They did not even sing!

At the end of the day Harper was so sad she did not know what to do
So she went up to her teacher, Miss Beecher.

Did everyone forget that she was turning 6 and 1/2?
She was so sad all she could do was nervously laugh.

And just like that it was time for Harper to go to school!
“I hope my teacher will say something” thought Harper. Otherwise I will feel like a fool.

When she got to school, she kept waiting for her teacher or friends to say, “Happy 1/2 birthday Harper!”
But they did not even say, “Hey!”

They said nothing during lunch, recess or social studies,
she began to think, were they even her buddies?
“Miss Beecher, everyone forgot it was my 1/2 birthday!”
You always wish the other students well on their day!

Harper expected Miss Beecher to say happy 1/2 birthday

but she did not say anything at all!
Harper was so upset she started to ball.

Miss Beecher the teacher brought Harper to the back bulletin board where the students birthdays were featured.

But Miss Beecher still did not say happy 1/2 birthday! Harper thought, “How absurd!”

HOW ABSURD!
Instead she got out the calendar that listed out all the days.
Harper was so confused her face turned sideways.

Miss Beecher explained to Harper that there are 12 months in a year.
